Hi, has anyone used the company Proserveuk.com for hosting?

I have a few sites with them, have had a good service from them and they are very cheap but I was wondering what the catch might be?

 

Anyone had any experience with them, any ideas why they are so cheap?

They don't seem that cheap. £5.99 is the cheapest shared hosting from what I can see, which seems ok to me.

 

But if they seem good, then maybe there is no catch, you have just found a good host!

I Pay £1.95/month for a reseller account...

there is only 50mb storage and other specs like that. thats why it will be cheap

But then, their hosting is in Germany it seems, and not the UK where its far more expensive.

Agree. It's really not worth comparing German hosting with UK hosting. German hosting is cheap but has many downsides.

 

The general advice is to host your web site as close to your target audience as possible. If you're wanting to attract UK customers and want to beat your UK competitors than you might find UK hosting a better investment in the long run.

lol, just seen it was for the year, I thought it was £5.99 a month!

 

I take it back. That is incredibly cheap and the catch will be they don’t make any money! So one day when they get bopred and disappear and you realise there is no phone number on the website and no company registration number, you'll be stuck.

Search engines do look at the server location (IP address) when ranking sites so it could affect SEO.

 

Google is clever enough to know that if you're using a .co.uk domain name then you're aiming at the UK, and will list you in the regional Google. Likewise .DE for Germany, .FR for France etc.

 

We always encourage our users to authenticate their sites with Google Webmaster Tools just to optimise their listing.

 

Google for example is increasingly factoring in the site load time when it comes to ranking sites. Faster sites bei placed higher than slower ones.

 

Sever location, DNS location, hardware and of course the site code all influence the site speed. It does make sense, as I guess Google wants to give their end-users the best experience.

 

My hunch is an identical site hosted in the UK would always rank higher than one hosted in Germany.

 

There are also other downsides. Your site is ruled by German Law, not UK law. How easily can your hosts actually get hands-on with their servers? Assuming they're not just resellers. Extra network hops. DNS location. The closer your DNS is to your sever and customers, the faster your site will load.

Thanks for the response, I think I'll use a local hosting provider (found a nice looking one in sheffield) from now on then, I wasn't aware of these factors so thanks for the advice. Every day is a school day.
