February 29, 201214 yr Folks. As some of you may know I've been having issues with my music site, to do with page loading. To re-iterate: Dashboard pages frequently hang, loading for eternity, usually with half the page loaded, forcing you to refresh until the page loads fully. Frontend pages sporadically extremely slow to load, I narrowed this down to an issue with "wait" part of the request (http://www.maxumi.co.uk/'>http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/CRXcJgGLl/http://www.maxumi.co.uk/) or essentially the time it took between hitting enter and actually being served. I have measured page load times as long as a minute. Every test I've done indicates the content actually loads in about 1-3 seconds. Now, I've got home tonight and for the past 30 minutes I have not had an issue. It's still not lightning fast, particularly in the dashboard, but it's not hanging or painfully slow either. So, I am wondering if whatever was causing the hosting to grind to a halt, has been stopped. This could be a particular use who was running a very intensive website. Thing is, I want some real world results and feedback and information. So I am asking you guys, if you could spare me some of your time, and check out the site for me and report back. I just want some people to load it up, click around, and report back. The unfortunate thing is, if what I suspect was happening was indeed going on, it's extremely poor of 1&1 to allowed it to continue for so long and it just goes to show one of the downsides of share hosting. February 29, 201214 yr Seems fine here (7pm). If you're waiting a long time for a site to respond it could be any number of issues: 1. Overcrowded server (though domaintools reports 80 sites on your server which is not a huge amount for shared server) 2. Another site on same server hogging resources 3. Slow network, either at the host end or inbetween you and the host 4. Hardware issues on server or data centre 5. Software issues on server 6. Maintenance 7. Old server spec can't keep up 8. Network abuse (ie DDOS attacks somewhere) On a shared server you have to expect slow responses sometimes, especially at peak times (even if it rarely happens it pays to expect them!). Good hosts will monitor their network 24/7 and if there are any bottlenecks they usually take action to keep things running as efficiently as possible. Did you log a support ticket to see if there were any issues that could have affected your site? I know in the past when I've had a few issues I've sent a support request to my host and they have told me what the problem was and any action they were taking.
February 29, 201214 yr Author Oh man, I emailed them so many times. I eventually raged at their Twitter (there were a few expletives). Their response? Nothing. Zilch. Numero uno. Honestly, 1&1 were fine for me up until 5 months ago. Since then, it's been a catastrophic fall from grace. How they can not respond to support astounds me, it reeks of a company that doesn't care. Which is why I'm moving to Vidahost via my Brother. The good thing is I'm running Vaultpress which should make moving the site a piece of cake. The support I have seen from Vidahost has been top notch, and with other sites I have hosted on them the speeds are brilliant, so I cannot wait to move over!
February 29, 201214 yr For me using Firefox... Home page - 15-20secs News page - 8-10secs Features page - 5-6secs Reviews > Singles page - 2-3secs Exclusive Interviews - 2-3secs Videos - 2-3secs Guest Mixes - 3-4secs Forums - 3-4secs Hope this helps!!

That's called the 1&1 customer experience - everything is ok until you need real support Never used Vidahost, but heard a lot of positive stuff, they should be much better for you - let us know how their support is.
February 29, 201214 yr The DNS for the domain looks fine: http://www.intodns.com/maxumi.co.uk I think Renaissance-Design is right. I guess you're on a shared package that they've over-sold so you're getting delays on the server. As it's Wordpress I'd assume that it's actually the MySQL DB that's causing it. Have you got any caching plugins on the site (eg: W3 Total Cache). If not, get one that allows database caching and see if that speeds things up.
February 29, 201214 yr Author I've got W3 Total Cache, but I didn't have database caching enabled so I'll try that. It does have a fair bit of content, my Vaultpress backup (files+db) was nearly 1GB - pretty big for a site that doesn't host video/audio.
March 1, 201214 yr Took about 10 seconds for me to load. You use the same background pattern as my portfolio!!!
March 1, 201214 yr Author What can I say, found it on subtle patterns! These loading times are disappointing. It's not hanging any more but this still isn't good enough. All my other sites load in about 1 second, usually less.
March 5, 201214 yr the home page took about 14 seconds to load, the other pages took roughly 3 seconds to load. Hope this helps.
March 10, 201214 yr It's acting sluggish for me. I suggest you transfer to a different host to be honest with you unless you can negotiate them to transfer your website to a different server of theirs.
