Magento webshop, can do that.. it has 5 build in product types: - Simple product - Configurable product - Downloadable products - Grouped product - virtual product Actually magento can do anything

Magento's great, except when it's overkill. Less than 1000 SKUs? Overkill. No configurable products or bundles? Overkill. Small volume of traffic? Overkill. Sales/traffic don't justify a tuned VPS? Overkill. Site owner isn't particularly tech-savvy? Overkill.
February 26, 201214 yr Completely disagree.. We used to use other carts but as soon as a store started to do well the owners needed x, then y, then z feature and they ended up on Magento anyway. We have hundreds of magento stores run by non-technical store owners. It runs smoothly on correctly configured hardware and a store owner can be trained to use it with a simple cheat sheet. Yes, you could go with a lighter cart but if your site takes off you will be starting again in a short time. Might as well plan for success.
February 26, 201214 yr Wordpress e-Commerce allows downloadable purchases. It's not without its faults (it lacks a number of features found in Magento) but if you like WP you already know how to use it and style it.

Magento's the big gun solution for sites purely geared to selling stuff. WPEC's a useful shop bolt-on for content sites.
February 26, 201214 yr It runs smoothly on correctly configured hardware Define "smoothly" and "correctly configured". In my experience Magento's so resource-heavy that it needs Varnish (or something comparable) to run smoothly.

February 27, 201214 yr Not having a pop, just saying it's apples:oranges. It's OK, always hard to gauge intent on a forum and perhaps my reply wasn't as thorough as it could have been. What I should have said is WPEC does a good job for what it is and it does handle downloads however in relation to Magento, which many see as the benchmark (as have suggested on this thread), it's obviously not as feature rich. Magento can be overkill especially for smaller shops, for Wordpress users/fans WPEC can be a relatively straightforward and 'free' path to getting a shop online.

I've got just over 25,000 products that will be up for download so which would you all say is the best software for bulk uploads & the best to maintain this high volume of products? Thanks again!
February 28, 201214 yr OK.. 25000 is quite a few products. Magento will handle this.. but 25 000 products is 25000 products and you are going to need a fairly decent hosting package. Budget for a high end VPS or a dedicated server. We would steer you to our semi-dedicated magento package if you cant justify a dedicated server. Not to mention plenty of bandwidth for the media files. You can bulk upload downloadable product types. I suspect open cart will manage this on a lot less hardware but you will still need a sound package and plenty of storage / bandwidth.
