1 page website

Featured Replies

Here's a site I did for my brother's plumbing company.

There is currently only 1 page (well 2 if you include the enquiry form).

The plan is to make it a bigger site in the future by putting on a services page, an image gallery of work, faq, etc.

But for now I wanted something up there because he has the web address on his business cards and I don't have time to do the full site.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Firstly, your code is invalid. (Caused by the second issue...)

Secondly, why does the enquiry form link open a new window?

Third, why does the enquiry page use frames?

Fourth, why does the Enquiry form attempt to resize my browser?

I like the look of the site, and if you sort out the above issues, I can't think of anything else negative to say about it tbh.

I'm only a beginner. Been learning html and CSS for just over a week. I think the site looks good.

I also like the look of your own design website.

However, neither of them seem to validate. Even your own site which has the validator at the bottom doesn't validate.

I think this is a very nice looking site, and great tag line too! I do think you should take a look at your code and try to make it validate. Also, I think the enquiry form really brings the site down. Resizing the browser window is a definate no-no in my book, as is opening the form in a new window. Also, I'm not sure of the value of having the enquiry form link twice right next to one another.

Other than that, great job!

Is the form issues something to do with using wufoo form maker?

freeformamker is a good site for php forms, which you can implement the code into your own site.

Wow! Great headline - I was halfway to the phone before I realised 2 things:

1. I don't have a house let alone plumbing.

2. I'm in New Zealand at the moment and international calls ain't cheap.

Can't help you with the design issues - you're in more than capable hands with the others - what I do is copy-editing.

Your copy is very good - persuasive, honest-sounding and with a great tempo that drags the reader right to the Contact Form link. You really should be proud of this site.

The only thing I could see which needs sorting is that you slip in and out of 'I' and 'we' throughout. You need to decide which one to go for - most likely 'I' seeing as it's your Corgi registration that's a selling point. If you find you really need to talk about 'us' in a sentence then add some clarification around it. e.g:

"With my team of engineers we provide..."

That kind of thing.

I, for one, love the site - follow the others' advice and you're quids-in!

Thanks wizely, I will sort out the I's and we's now.

Thanks mark I will look in to that.

It seems most of you like the site and its just the enquiry form, so I will sort that out and let you know when I have made the changes.

One thing that I think would help the site is, make the footer a little taller and expand it to !00% width so that it matches the top and gives the site a little bit of balance.

Other than that design wise I like it :)

That is a nice website you have there and like Wizely said, you have some great copy!

One suggestion is to make the banner text accessible like you have done with the image on the top right.

I noticed your page doesn't validate because you are using a target="_blank" on your enquiry form link, I won't get into the nitty gritty of it as there are plenty of posts on the forum about it, but either take that off or make your DOCTYPE transitional.

My other point is please please don't resize my browser window on your enquiry form, I definitely won't be clicking that link again now! :o

Just to let you know I changed the enquiry form to a lighbox effect rather than opening a new window and resizing it.

I like it! Personally I'd stick the form at the very bottom of the page and stick a link to the form element. Then you'd have one page. Also your banner image gets blocked by AdBlock Plus, so might be worth changing the name of the image to something other than banner ;)
