October 17, 201115 yr Hi guys and girls, I've slapped together a mock up of what I want my profile/portfolio site to look like. Any feedback would be great, e.g. design, coding critique etc. I chose a black and white scheme due to my love of Newcastle United football club (well actually I lie, I just liked the mono look) Initially I wanted to add a splash of colour but couldn't settle for an ideal one, any suggestions about that would be great, keep it just black and white or add a colour for links...?? Please be gentle as I'm a beginner after all, though I'll take it on the chin if people disapprove!! My link P.S. I've not tested this in I.E yet, twas designed on the mac Thanks Edited October 17, 201115 yr by wleshrob
October 17, 201115 yr I quite like it. I think some splash of colour on hovers would really set things of nicely.
October 17, 201115 yr Author I quite like it. I think some splash of colour on hovers would really set things of nicely. I was thinking that, i think I'll play on the colours a little more, maybe a light background with a hint of colour, see how that goes, The one thing i struggle with most in web design is colours!!! Could you maybe recommend a color I could use? Edited October 17, 201115 yr by wleshrob
October 17, 201115 yr I'd also use some different text for some things like the top links. all blends too much together IMO.

October 18, 201115 yr Author Thanks for the input guys, i'll post a link to my design mark II when I next get chance. One question, on I.E 7 why do my <em> elements jump onto a new line within the 'my web design skils' list? Ay ideas?
October 18, 201115 yr Author I'd also use some different text for some things like the top links. all blends too much together IMO. Done! Just using basic fonts for now, might look into @font-face though and some free web fonts on font squirril, any recommedations on a serif and sans-srif font to replace the Georgia and Helvetica fonts currently used?
October 18, 201115 yr Author Updated to a slightly lighter background...eeek! My link Edited October 18, 201115 yr by wleshrob
October 18, 201115 yr Hi Rob, overall I think your site should do well! My only gripe is that box in the bottom right :- "My web design skills" - it's been way overdone, think it's had it's day.
October 18, 201115 yr Author Hi Rob, overall I think your site should do well! My only gripe is that box in the bottom right :- "My web design skills" - it's been way overdone, think it's had it's day. True! Maybe I'll think of something else to go there instead. I wasn't so keen on displaying the fact my back-end coding skills were currently weak anyway!! On the note of that web design skills box, if possible can you view it in I.E.7, the percentage values (<em> tags) are dropping onto a new line, do you happen to know why? I've tryed loadsa things but nothing seems to work! Oh, just liek to say your coffee and code website looks good by the way, look foward to seeing the final product!
October 18, 201115 yr Like. Agree 1 colour splash will make it POP. Don't like. Hi, my name is Robbie and I‘m good at the internet. This as a sentence, especially the last line does not flow right, sounds awkward and reallllllly doesn't emphasise your skills any one can use the internet, what you do is much much more than that.

Oh, just liek to say your coffee and code website looks good by the way, look foward to seeing the final product! Ta very much!
