IE9 killing me slowly

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I need to set up a portfolio ASAP - reason being I accidentally deleted my last one and last week I spent most of the week promoting myself... So to get this done super quick I got a template to serve as a temporary portfolio while I build a proper one.

Problem is my entire menu will not work in IE along with other things.

WTF could it be because I am on the verge of throwing my pc out the window and turning all suicidal bomber on the IE section of microsoft where ever they work

any hints?

got a link?

tried validating?

asked the seller for your money back for selling a template that doesn't work?

I've asked for my money back but if I get it working before he replies then that would suit me more! I spent the entire week promoting and time is super important right now

let this teach everyone... back everything up :(

and I know the blog button does not work I wanted to get that going tonight but this is a little more important :/

is it just IE9? I have IE8 on this PC and it works fine, will need to fire up the lappy to see IE9.

yup! just IE9 its funny on

only HTML errors are in the Facebook like box, only css error I'm about to correct

All works fine from of here.

Using ie 9:), compared it with google chrome.

Do you not have the html files on your computer to re-upload to the server? Or did you delete them off your computer?

Not wanting to sound like a dick but here goes anyway... If you can't maintain a decent back up of your own files what hope is there for your clients?! And worst still rather than just put up a 1 page holder with contact details you then gone off and bought a template (where no doubt you marketed your self as a designer not a template reseller) to fill the slot for you? Slack..

I give all files to clients on a Flash USB stick - I tell them I don't keep any files once the job is over.

And no I tend to delete stuff. I never thought I would be stupid enough to just delete it... Lesson learned. Just gone and got myself a NAS drive for the future.

I can't see myself having the time to redo my portfolio in the next 2-3 weeks at least - I thought a template with at least a little portfolio was the better option than a 1 page holder. I'm not happy with it but I put a few 100 into last weeks promotions with leaflets ect I thought this would be better.

We will see :) but yes all valid questions and I've changed what I've done to stop it happening again.

So you do work and then never keep a copy what if the client comes back? Do you bin invoices as well?

omg so I do stuff a little different to you?

get over it mate

I normally ask for FTP access and just download the lot and start from that :) Not had a problem until I deleted my own....

lol

Out of curiosity, why are you using Cufon? You could get the same effect by using @font-face with League Gothic.

As much as I love how beautifully Cufon renders type it's kind of heavy when @font-face is so easy to use and widely supported.

I agree. When working for a client, I usually back up the source files after each session to a USB stick, partitioned drive on my comp, and every few days a CD/DVD.

So then I have a copy on the server, my main drive, my partitioned drive, a USB stick and a CD/DVD.

Better to overkill than not to back up at all.

No that's not the point. It's not that you do it "different" - that's ok, there's many ways of doing it. I think the point is you don't do it at all.

Now now ladies... keep it on topic (Not PorkChops though, i totally agree with using @font-face lol)

Whoops sorry Mike just noticed you posted this.

Sorry STE Hughes I'm sure you don't need us rubbing it in about how you failed to backup, so I apologise.

Anwyay - I agree with Porkchops, go with @font-face and you should be ok.
