Online portfolio needs feedback please!

Hi all,

I'm a recent grad and planning to start my own freelance works. I've created my own online portfolio at www.coreyleedesigns.com and would like some comments on how it looks.

Thanks everyone!

Not bad,

The content needs more contrast as currently it's blending in with the background.

Also the content in the white header is hard hard to read and doesn't really make it easy for a potential client to understand what you offer.

First impressions it looks good. Things to improve/change are:

  • Re-do the droplet vector masks they look really badly anti-alised.
  • Make the navigation stand out more.
  • Change the social icons so they show the original icon when hovering over them (site is to static)
  • On the homepage on the last dip they're is some white showing through.

I agree with the above as well. I also wanted to add that since there is so much space at the top of each page it's a lot of scrolling involved - people are lazy and constant scrolling on each page can get tiresome for some people, especially when looking at portfolio pieces. :D (and by this last part I mean people want to see your work as easily as possible, that's what they are there for).

I hate to be that guy but I disagree with what the other posters have said.

This looks like a really amateurish composition. The background images are huge and remind me of stuff I used to see in MS Paint.

Judging by the work in your portfolio you're a pretty solid graphic designer, but unfortunately graphic design and web design have some major differences which are quite apparent here.

You should probably go brush up on the basics of web layout, user experience and accessibility. You use images everywhere without image replacing the text. You could achieve a lot of the same effect with careful use of @font-face.

I think the lack of refinement is really putting me off. This crazy layout could work for you if the edges weren't aliased (jagged), the site was larger than 800px wide (looks really silly on larger screens) and a grid system was used.

The lack of organization and visual hierarchy makes each page incredibly confusing. I don't know where my eye is supposed to travel, I don't know what you want me to do. It takes forever to see the navigation. You really want to call attention to the portfolio and contact sections since that will be what generates conversions.

I don't think anyone worth working for will contact you if you don't have a contact form. I wouldn't want a business web designer who couldn't make forms, and without one present you don't have proof that you can.

The same logic goes for information architecture. If I feel confused and/or lost when I visit your site it won't instill confidence that you can deliver a professional site for me.

Again, definitely work on the basics. If you do some searching I'm sure you can find plenty of resources. With a background in Graphic Design you should be able to focus on the web-specific stuff. I've posted a ton of content regarding this topic (I feel like a broken record sometimes) so you could probably just look through my posts.

It's pretty and creative. I liked. I would just suggest to reduce the height of the page a little bit, althought thats part of its creativity, of course.

Agree with Porkchops concerning web design. Ditto on remark about too big useless space at the header.

Nice graphics works (Rock in Japan).

You online portfolio design is hard to understand. All design elements placed in turmoil. You need to work a lot. I think all WDF members who will see your portfolio will be agree with Porchops criticism.

Thanks for allll the comments and I really appreciate them. I understand that I still have a lot to learn to be a good designer and there is a big room for improvements. I have redone my portfolio and this is the temporary link: www.coreyleedesigns.com/v2.2/ I hope this looks better than my previous version. If so I'm planning to make this one to direct to the primary link.

Thanks so much all designers!

Anyone with any comments please? I would really like to know if I'm on the right track and wonder this current clean and simple layout is impressive enough to attract clients.

Thanks!!!
