Link Building

Featured Replies

Hi folks

Just wondered if anyone could share some ideas on how to get high page rank links. Im setting up my websites blog as we speak so thats blogs covered, is article submission as good as it used to be? HEard people talk about Press Releases how do you do this, is this more for the big boys. Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks Guys

Joe

First stop is head on over to SEOMoz who do regular blogs and articles about this sort of stuff. Excellent way of keeping up to date with the techniques and research into this area.

One good thing to do is have a little link in the footer of the websites you create with the words like 'Created by Amazing Web Design'. Forum signatures are a good way of getting these backlinks, join up to as many webdesign/seo forums and community as you can and place a link in your signature. Be careful not to spam or anything like that, thats a big no-no.

Search around for other blogs about webdesign/SEO and participate in some good discussions there, making sure you have a link back to your website. Don't spam though, that **** is annoying.

I'd steer well clear of article submission since the latest Panda update by Google, as these content farms have been heavily penalised.

Create link bait within you blog; write articles that are useful, interesting and humorous. Blog writing is an art of its own, but if it's done correctly then it can be a useful weapon in your armoury. Create a post like '7 secret steps to a perfect website' or something. You get the gist, however people ******* love lists.

Set up a page on facebook, run competitions on there, offer things like discounts if they join etc etc. Generally gets your brand out there.

But head to SEOMoz for sure, excellent website

Hi Jason,

With forums i think its hard to find a forum that doesnt charge to add links in signature lol will need to have a look.

See with regards to finding blogs and that most of the blogs i visit none of the commenters put links in there comments or is it their profile a link goes. :S or do you mean email the blog owner and ask to write a post?

Ive been using twitter, recently ive no friends that are interested in this stuff so doubt they would share it or that. lol

Thanks Joe

When you go to comment on a blog, there is usually the following text fields:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Website
  • Comment

With Twitter, follow other website design, graphic design, SEO, development companies. Tweet interesting information, re-tweet other web design firms, showcase your work, link to interesting articles and portfolios. Rarely will a social presence on Twitter and Facebook be carried by 'real life friends'. They're OK to start off with, and populate your facebook pages with 'likes' but in terms of actually 'spreading the word about amazing web design', it's more likely to be fellow web designers that will pass on work, link to it etc etc.

Maybe you could do a guest post for my blog? Link back to your website, you could link to it from your blog and we're happy all round

Hi Jason,

Worked out how to link on blogs got a few done to day, don't want to sound spammy so a couple a day isnt too bad :)

I would love to do a guest post, one thing though my blog isn't live yet but you could do a post that can be uploaded a couple of days after its live. I hope to have my blog live by end of week or beginning of next week. What sort of topics do you want for your blog, would it be a tutorial, inspiration piece.

As for fb and twitter just add other designers and like their portfolios and posts etc... and my fanbase should increase and hopefully clients etc...

Thanks

Joe

Im sure I can write up a good post that could be used on your website, some sort of 'top ten' feature about maybe SEO or something along those lines.

I'll accept you on facebook when I have the chance to get to a computer (On my phone currently) and once i've written something up then I can send it over there.

Wordpress blog, is it?

I think a tutorial would be a great addition to my blog, as all the posts I make are simply my thoughts, ramblings and general ideas/theories behind different things so a tutorial would be a good idea!

Well, it all depends on when the website in which you have a link posted, is indexed.

When Google crawls that page, it follows the links that are on it, register the links as a backlink and then crawls your website and credits you with that backlink. So you can go out and get 1,000 backlinks in one day (just a figure) and it may might only register 10 backlinks on a day, then the next day it may not register any, and then on the third day it might register 50 backlinks. As I said, it all depends on when that website get's crawled again. The best advice I can give is just keep getting backlinks and they'll slowly get registered in what appears a natural way to Google

Link building is nothing but the posting of the links of your site in other websites. For this Purpose we are using the Off page optimization techniques like blog posting, article posting, social book mark posting, classified submission, directory submission and press release submission.

For Page Rank, the content is most important. You need to have good quality contents in your site. You also need to change it frequently to get noticed by the Google. This is also for the Article posting. You need to give more importance to the Content of the Article.

It is also important to have links from relevant content related websites.

Any link is really a good link as long as it sits on a page that has been indexed by your chosen search engine. Most people are only interested in Google because that's where the traffic is so make sure that the page you're trying to get a link from is indexed in Google or has good potential of getting indexed.

You can do this quickly if you've got the Google toolbar installed on Firefox or the "cache" plugin installed on Chrome. All it takes is a click or two rather than manually going to Google and pasting in the URL.

Checking if pages are cached particularly relates to doing directory submissions for links which a lot of people poo poo. This is mainly due to the typical low value links you get on sub category pages buried levels deep within the directory's structure. Directory submissions are also looked upon poorly because the mass submission route doesn't work well for the same reason. By mass submitting to directories using software you're likely to get a link on a page that matches the category you submitted to however the reality is that it it's buried deep and Google may never crawl that far in. This is where people are missing a trick.

Directory submissions can be good for ranking for longtail phrases and are very effective as a tool to get pages indexed. All it takes is a little manual labour and doing things the right way.

Go to Google and type the following to find a list of directories that have pages indexed and relevant to your site's theme:

"add url" web design

You might have to sift through a few to get to directories that don't charge a fee for a listing but if you can live with giving sites a link back from a page on your site then you can quickly get a lot of relevant reciprocal links. These also get bad press btw however that's another story.

Jason makes a bunch of great points, but you should also keep in mind that no matter what you do Word of Mouth is going to be your best source of new clients. I wouldn't put too much energy into SEO since that's energy that could be spend handing out business cards and trying to land clients to do a phenomenal job for. That's the real secret to generating steady business.

Thanks, guys for all your answers, gonna focus on the business cards idea try and get first client :)

Speak soon guys

Joe

PS One thing befre i go, see when commenting on blogs, my anchor text is going to be my name, right, how can i change the anchor text cause i dont think people would like affordable web design or bespoke web design on their comments as someones name lol. I could always put Amazing Web Design as thats my websites name and business name, im stuck lol

Thanks :)

Joe,

Most blogs now will have the "nofollow" attribute appended to your link these days because of the amount of poeple spamming blogs with comments. This means Google wont follow the link so no relevance is passed on to your site.

The best thing to do to make sure your comment is approved is to use your real name as the name and add a signature at the end of your useful and well thought out comment like this:

Do all methods to get backlinks for your site . use social bookmarking and blog commenting, blog posting to get quality backlinks for your site and concentrate on quality no for quantity

Hello dude,

if you need high page rank links then you will have to do hard work...because now a days link exchange work is hard..but you can get..whichever you need your site link page also PR high, start comment posting with dofollow site, join social community and submit article in PR sites...

One of the most over quoted and incorrect pieces on information about link building going around.

Are you meaning that having nofollow links to your site makes your site appear more natural?

For many people looking to improve their site site I personally would not worry about nofollow links as they are not only very easy, but if you are creating a respectable site you would no doubt gain some nofollow links anyway. I can't imagine having a massive amount of nofollow backlinks will help that much.

Quote from Matt Cutts blog about the nofollow attribute:

“I can’t or don’t want to vouch for this link.” In Google, nofollow links don’t pass PageRank and don’t pass anchortext".

Hi, if your pretty familiar with back link tracking then you can easily get link on high PR sites, by this method you easily find Do follow sites (forum, blog, directory, article submission, PR submission)just work on these sites to get high PR links.
