February 17, 201115 yr I've started to have second thoughts about the colors and the layout... What do you guys think? Nice idea you have there. I would add some more color to it and perhaps some text to let people know where the icons go. Maybe a rollover? Besides that, I like the design. It's simple and without clutter.
February 17, 201115 yr It's a bit too dark. I would say lighten it up a little, not too much. What do you have in mind for the blank space above the character?
February 17, 201115 yr Author so i lighten it up a little and added some graphics to blank space. is it any better or just the same?Oh, and there's going to be a rollover effect. Icon slides to the left, as in top right menu. same effect on bottom icons. and then a modal window showing the content. Edited February 17, 201115 yr by Ambero
February 17, 201115 yr why do u use black text? change that to white! Agreed. Looks a bit like a lightbox has opened over the page without an image in it This is not to say i find it a bad design, quite the contrary, i just find it to 'dark'. Edited February 17, 201115 yr by MikeChipshop
February 17, 201115 yr Author Thank you for all your comments. You're helping me a lot. I agree that it's too dark. I've made some changes, is this the direction I should be heading? Edited February 17, 201115 yr by Ambero
February 17, 201115 yr Mystery Meat navigation. I have no idea what a few of those icons are on the bottom. I shouldn't have to rely on hovers to tell me what they are. The background is also way too dark. Makes me feel dark and gloomy. Surely something You don't want your potential clients feeling. The space above the huge text is also confusing. Why is it there? Im all for negative space... but this is overkill. Im also a bit confused why there is a vector illustration of you (or why other people put one there as well). Almost always it looks creepy (your is the best one I have seen so props there). It just doesn't add anything for your clients. Just seems put there as a reason to take space. Why not put something there to benefit the client in aiding him in requesting your services? I like the white text, but perhaps its too white if you know what I mean.
February 17, 201115 yr Author cibgraphics, thanks for comments. Ok, dark colour no good. Let's try lighter colors. It's a quick mockup, so don't pay too much attention to details. Icons will be sorted at later stages. I know, some of them are confusing.
February 17, 201115 yr Author Thing is, I did dark design late at night and I think it was directly affected by my mood, because when I woke up next morning and looked at it, it reminded me of thumb stone in a cemetery. How this is not depressing? And the other thing is, despite the fact that I quite like the dark colors and film grain effect, it doesn't go very well with other pages of my website. Thank you very much for your comments, I really appreciate that. I think I will start from scratch once again and will continue my quest designing something that I'd stay happy with for more than a week.
February 18, 201115 yr Author Hi once again, so here I go again... Did I improve? Icons are missing both in nav menu and in a content box, so no need to point that out.. The idea is to fit first half of the page into standard screen. Everything below is dedicated to portfolio. One slide with multiple images for one project; 5 best projects to be displayed. sooo what you think regarding layout & colors? maybe I should try switching background colors?
February 18, 201115 yr I'd say the top slider/pager is in need of some subtle separator between the pages.
February 18, 201115 yr Author agreed on slider thing. what about colors? light-dark-light or dark-light-dark? or they both total disaster?
February 18, 201115 yr white text. I find it hard to argue with Alzer as his work is damn good BUT... surely white will be far to stark? Maybe lighter grey?
February 18, 201115 yr Author Thank you once again for feedback. I think I'll go with light-dark-light. any thoughts on a blog page mockup?
February 18, 201115 yr Yeh I have some thoughts... I don't like the gradient you are currently using on the boxes because it makes the box look dirty, if you have a close look you'll see what I mean. The drop shadow is a little to harsh (looks default - which is not good) so maybe tone this down a little bit. I would suggest you pay a little more attention to transforming shape layers because the rounded 'Lets Start Here' graphic looks a little stretched our of proportion (ignore me if this was intentional), also a couple of pixellated edges and corners need to be fixed, the head section (logo section) could benefit from more breathing space! it's pretty tight up there. The main suggestion I would make for you at this stage is to have a look at your design and pick a light source/light sources and stick to them. Doing this is gonna improve your design a lot, it will add depth and quality to your site. Having inconsistent lighting makes it look a bit slap dash that will do kinda thing. You need to be strict on the attention to detail side of things and keep pushing yourself. Keep up the good work!
February 19, 201115 yr I was looking for a menu then i realised it was the accordion. There's very little visual hierarchy in this page. I don't know where to look. Information is cluttered. There are also no real colours and hence no contrast to lead my eyes. The home page is lacking design elements that pop out and engage the visitor. Sorry if I was harsh but it's for the greater good
February 20, 201115 yr It is hard to get an overall feel for your site from the screens. I like your design and you have reacted well to feedback it's getting better each post. I cant really tell how our site is functioning but would strongly recommend keeping the navigation consistent throughout the site. It's good to push boundaries but don't leave your site user confused.
February 20, 201115 yr cibgraphics, thanks for comments. Ok, dark colour no good. Let's try lighter colors. It's a quick mockup, so don't pay too much attention to details. Icons will be sorted at later stages. I know, some of them are confusing. This screenshot was my favorite out of ALL the ones that you've attached. Not because it was lighter like some of the others said though, it looks SHARPER because there is contrast between your design elements and content. I feel if you put the "face" from the earlier screenshots back into this one it would look great! Really nice idea and I believe you have the right eye for design as the elements and spacing seem to be well balanced. When you get the color/contrast right this site should look awesome.
