I've just finished (or at least very nearly finished) a little portal site I'm working on www.top100links.info which has links to the top 100 music/films/entertainment and free download links.

 

Now that I've got it online and done all the usual stuff (submitted it to google/yahoo and a few others, checked my keywords and loading structures etc), what's the best way to increase my rank in google and actually get people to my site?

 

I know that link building is probably the best way to do it but has anyone tried/had experience with buying traffic in a bid to get their site known? Also I tried submitting my site to a free ezine advertising programme (can't remember the site) but it didn't go through. Is it worth trying again or is ezine advertising not worth the hassle?

 

Any advice would be appreciated

By the nature of a topsite you should be getting backlinks from the site that you list so you may gain some benefit there.

 

Your navigation menu needs changing, at the moment it just reads H, E FD etc - this means nothing to your sites visitors or search engines so I'd recommend you put the actual word in Home - Entertainment - Free downloads etc.

 

You have hedaing tags which is good.

Yeah you're right about the navigation, I was trying to keep it small so that it looked better on lower res screens, but I think I need to change it

if you structure your website correctly you may not have to use a backlink strategy. My website in on first page for all the terms I require and has no back links. Very competitive terms as well. web design doncaster.

Rankings would also depend on the competition of the keywords you are vying for. I suggest you target first some longer tail keywords so as to see faster results in rankings.
