Photoshop Page Width

Featured Replies

1000px and then have my site in the middle set normally at 960px/900px.

I often take a screen shot of the site im creating (if re-developing) and start that as a backdrop (leaving the browser window as a frame.)

960 grid is the most common width these days. looks like ur 1px too big...

Yh :) I took the width from another site a few years back, and im designing a new site so i was woundering what you guys use.

less than 1024. 960 is popular because of the way it divides out.

I set the document dimensions to 1200px.

Then i set two guidelines, one 120px from the left, the second 1080px from the left.

This gives me 960px wide template, with 120px gutters each side.

Pretty much the same as me! I like the extra breathing room on the sides of the 960, gives me a proper feel for how the site will look.

Yeah, backgrounds have a huge impact on the design itself. You can easily prototype ideas in the gutters and get a good reflection on how they tie into the design.

Might try that. What depth do you make the 'page'?

Depth?

Depth?

Do you mean 'height' of the page?? If so, that really depends on the length of the information on the page ^_^

Kyle

If it is height, i always start it at 1000px; You can always add space to the bottom of the canvas as needed.

960px wide here, unless the client is okay with going wider and the content would benefit from having more room.

My actual Photoshop document is 1300 x 1300 though and I mark off guides 960px wide in the middle of the canvas. I like lots of space :)

1200px to see and work with the background, 980px just for the website. And I do the same as Authentic_Style, I set guide lines, it helps a lot.
