September 3, 201015 yr Hi guys, What width do you set in photoshop when designing web templates, I usualy use 961px, but what do you use? Regards Shaun
September 3, 201015 yr I often take a screen shot of the site im creating (if re-developing) and start that as a backdrop (leaving the browser window as a frame.)
September 3, 201015 yr Author 960 grid is the most common width these days. looks like ur 1px too big... Yh I took the width from another site a few years back, and im designing a new site so i was woundering what you guys use.
September 4, 201015 yr I set the document dimensions to 1200px. Then i set two guidelines, one 120px from the left, the second 1080px from the left. This gives me 960px wide template, with 120px gutters each side.

I like the extra breathing room on the sides of the 960, gives me a proper feel for how the site will look.

Yeah, backgrounds have a huge impact on the design itself. You can easily prototype ideas in the gutters and get a good reflection on how they tie into the design.
September 4, 201015 yr Depth? Do you mean 'height' of the page?? If so, that really depends on the length of the information on the page Kyle
September 4, 201015 yr If it is height, i always start it at 1000px; You can always add space to the bottom of the canvas as needed.
September 7, 201015 yr I ussualy use a 1600px width (950px for the website) and I am creating an website with a large background.
September 7, 201015 yr 960px wide here, unless the client is okay with going wider and the content would benefit from having more room. My actual Photoshop document is 1300 x 1300 though and I mark off guides 960px wide in the middle of the canvas. I like lots of space
September 8, 201015 yr 1200px to see and work with the background, 980px just for the website. And I do the same as Authentic_Style, I set guide lines, it helps a lot.
