July 12, 201016 yr Hi guys, My girlfriend is studying medicine, and is working in a hospital in Adelaide this August. The plan is that I will meet up with her when her work is coming to an end at the start of September, then we will travel along the south east coast towards Brisbane where we will be getting our return flight. We have about 5 weeks. I'm looking to do this as cheaply as possible, and I should be taking around £2000 cash with me. This is around $3500 AUD. This is NOT including flights, which will be paid for elsewhere. Is $3500 AUD enough? This needs to cover accommodation, food, any travelling within Australia and excursions/activities. We will be looking to stay in Hostels, and cook our own food most days to keep costs down. Anyone done this before? If so; - How much did you end up spending? - Any tips on MUST-SEE places on the south east coast? Perhaps less "commercialised" places we could otherwise miss out on. I know technically you could spend as little or as much as you like, depending on activities and where you stay, just looking for some information from anyone who has some experience of this :-) Cheers, Kyle
July 13, 201016 yr I used to live in australia actually! Not far from Sydney. We went back over in 2005 for 5 weeks and took a few thousand dollars with us and we had money coming home. Not a lot mind you! As long as you plan your spending you'll be fine. Hope it goes well and enjoy
July 15, 201016 yr I'm probably not the one to ask, I traveled Australia after uni on my credit card and racked up loads of debt, but that's mainly because I couldn't be bothered to work. it was one hell of a party though I can tell you. Took me about three years to pay it off when I got back... oh to be young again!
July 17, 201016 yr Author lol, thanks for the input guys. I've looked into it a lot more, and I think about £2000 should cover me. Its about 4 and a half weeks I'll actually be there after travelling, so £500 a week should fairly comfortably do the job so long as I don't intend on eating gourmet food every night :-P Kyle

July 29, 201016 yr Hey man, I am travelling on a RTW trip with my girlfriend and a mate starting 10/10/10 (we sort of planned that..), anyone care to guess what time the flight is? I'll put you out of your misery. It's at 10pm! Our route is London > Bangkok > Singapore > Perth > Sydney > LA > Las Vegas > San Francisco > London. I know, its a beast. I will have roughly £4k ($7040 AUD), purely for spending, but will be looking to work straight away.. Always wanted to know how to make a cocktail Regarding the excursions, one I have been reading up on recently is the Roar and Snore at Sydney Zoo. We are also doing the Blue Mountain tour in Sydney and also the Sydney Bridge Climb. I appreciate that these are all located in Sydney, but pretty much my whole family (or about 8 of them) are flying out at Christmas / New Year to meet us and spend it with my sister who has been out there for 2 years, so we thought we'd get some activities in. Sorry if I have droned on a bit, I am very excited, only 73 days to go! Lewis.
