Sooo.. I always worried about my tattoos being an issue when applying for a job (I have four at the moment, currently designing my fifth). Then when I managed to get a job as a web designer, I was hoping that like-minded, creative people would possibly be into tattoos aswell. However, the people I currently work with don't seem to have any tattoos, or interest in them. They're not against them, but certainly not as crazy about them as I am, and my crazy assumption was wrong!

I was just wondering if you guys have any tattoos, big or small, smart or wacky! Pictures are optional but would be cooooool to take a look at! (I know, I can be nosey!)

:) Aimee.

I have 2, A dragon on my right upper arm and a sword wrapped in celtic banding on my upper left arm (its my units logo)

I am thinking of having a new done but am not sure what I want.

each to their own but they have to be done well and ideally on a suitable canvas.

I had mine removed by laser a few years ago. Very painful and extremely expensive. Funnily enough I was thinking of getting another one a few months ago ....

I have a dragon on my back, I got it done when I was 17 on a trip to Éspanyol! I like it, it's right on my back so I don't get gawped at when going for job interviews. But I do get the old "What's the point of getting a tattoo if it's on your back and no one can see it?!" But I think, as long as I know it's there, and it looks nice, it's my art and I don't feel the need to ram it down everyone's throat!

I have a few. Two graffiti names - one on each arm. Which are covered by my shirt n tie :p !!

Want to get the Southern Cross on my back next too...

You do have to think about work - if u can - have them where they can be hidden.

A lot of people dont see it our way - they can be put off you - even though you may be awesome at your job :(

if the company interviewing you isn't comfortable working with someone with tattoos then you're probably not going to be comfortable working with them ;)

i would never get a tattoo but i think they are cool, in the right place(s) on the right people.

Totally agree with davep - if the company i've got an interview with refuses to employ people with tattoos, then there is very little chance i'd like working for that company. Call it an ink-based weeding out process.

As for tattoos and web design, I think quite a lot of people now almost expect people in "creative" professions to have something about them. I've never had a problem with mine and some are quite visible (on my wrists and insides of biceps). The others are hidden away.

My mum still hates them though, which is the biggest problem, haha.

I have a full sleeve on my arm which I love! I obviously cover it up with a long sleeve shirt when goin to meetings but it's not been an issue, and I think anyone who did have a problem with it would be quite narrow minded.

Yeah I agree with you all, really.

It is a shame how some people still look negatively at people with tattoos. But as much as I'd never choose to work for someone like that.. I guess that if you're desperate for a job, you'd have no choice.

And people need to post pictures, I looove looking at other peoples tattoos. :p

I haaaave.. three small hearts on my left inner forearm juts down from my wrist, a butterfly on my right inner forearm just down from my wrist, a ribbon style butterfly on one side of my chest and two flowers on the right side of my chest. So I have to wear long sleeves and a high-necked top to cover them up. But luckily I don't have to do that with work or anything. And as soon as I manage to sell my xbox or finish this website I'm working on, I'l going to get another on the inside of my left forarm, just down from my elbow. A flower / vine thing. :)

My dad said I ought to join the circus.. as a "tattoo'd freak". I think he's being a taaaad overly dramatic, lol.

I've had my sleeve started, but i was thinking of just going 3/4 down, so i can safely cover it up with a shirt if needs be.

You should go for it, what you having done?

Here's mine it gets finished in a few weeks.

I'm scared i might end up looking like someone's mashed a deck of uno cards into my arm :$

How much is the full sleeve gonna cost you? 'cus when i went for quotes they varied a hell of alot.

Ooh that's really cool.. I love the lettering.

I soo want a half sleeve on my forearm, I'm just worried it'll make me look kinda butch lol. Yeah how much do you guys usually get charged? Each artist I've been to charges about £10 every 10 minutes. So £60 an hour.

Thanks ALTweb, ur butterfly looks pretty!

It's cost £480 so far thats 8 hours, 2 more hours should do it totalling £600.

Though I did have a crappy tattoo on the inside of my forearm which he's added too.

Wicked! What are you getting?

I have 2 - one between my shoulder blades and one on my ankle. I did have a third (an ex's name - bad mistake!) but a kind surgeon once agreed to remove it for me while revising an old surgery scar.

I'd love more, but now I'm older, I'm a bit more cautious about what I get and where I put it. I'd love one on my wrist/inside of my forearm, but that's not as easy to hide as my others.

haha this is where I feel like the odd one out... I actually have 12 tattoos, including a large one on my back, but I always HIDE them when talking to clients, as they can be offputting to a lot of people.

Tattoos are a personal choice, and if possible should be covered in a work environment (unless you're a tattoo artist, might be better to show them off then!!)

Ive decided against having any more, I'm having several removed now as Ive got older and wiser ;)

The flower I've used on my business cards / website so it's kinda like my logo.. with pretty vines and stuff around it. I'll post pics when i've had it done.. and it's lovely and red and sore. :p

Cool. Hurt at all?

I clung so hard to the chair when the woman was doing mine, she was lethal!!

I've never flexed so hard in my life!!

lol they're really painful anyone who says otherwise is a liar!!

How long was your session mate?

Mine was 2 and half hours. It doesn't actually feel that long. It's the initial outline that kills me! It's like a compass scraping your back! Didn't help I was on the pi$$ the night before, I was bleeding like all over the shop! lol

Haha aww.. Hey, I don't think they hurt.... they sting and sometimes burn a bit but I've felt much worse pain. Someone once told me they felt like getting a continuous cat scratch. I dunno about you guys or if my cat's just evil but I've felt cat scratches a lot worse than that lol. I'll let you know if mine hurts / how it goes. :p Only a day and a half before I get this one done. Yay! :D

Depends where you get them ;)

Haha ok that's true I guess.

The ones on my arms didn't really hurt much at all.

The ones on my chest buuurned more than the ones on my arms. They took about an hour and half each, and I don't think I could go any longer in one sitting on my chest. My chest felt like it was on fire.

I wanted smiley's on my fingertips. App. finger tip tattoo's don't last long though.

Would a tattoo on the soul of your foot would tickle? Atleast it wouldn't bruise :p

Ouch.

So I just got back from hospital.. as about an hour after my tattoo was finished, my arm tripled in size, I couldn't stop shaking and I almost puked / passed out lol. Gah.. but here's a pic.. kinda. You can seeee it's swollen. Taken on stupid webcam too, grr.

  • Author

haha thanks.. I had to go to the doctors again yesterday and found out I've developed cellulitis around the tattoo. D:

It's clearing up but it's so sore lol. Tattoo itself looks better tho. :]

  • 2 weeks later...

You cant not love tattoos sure you might live to regret them but everyone does something they wish they hadn't. Why not make it something cool as hell?
