I am the designer of this internet promotion services provider.

My manager is being strict and told me that customers said my design wasn't professional enough for the services they provide.

Here is the site - http://www.moreviews.net

Please give me detailed advice on how I can improve it and make it look more professional.

Thanks a million!

I appreciate it!

You could start with using sharp, clear, non-pixelated images. Perhaps more importantly, don't steal logos.

Other points:

  • Keep the font face constant
  • Give the main content areas more structure

  • Author

The things is, I didn't steal logo.

Why would you think that...?

I used photoshop to create it...

Thanks for the advice though, I will use the same font though.

Thanks again.

Any other takers?

Unfortunately it looks very amateurish, as andyl said you have several fonts in play that make it inconsistant and hard to read.

More things to look at:

1. <font> tags have been depracated for years, why use them?

2. Don't use underlining for non linked text

3. You're publishing some dodgy claims, eg

Product xxx generated visitors

P.S.This product will increase your search engine ranking, alexa ranking, and etc. These

rankings will bring you real visitors to your site

4. Whois reports the domain as being first registered in 2008, yet you're showing 2005 in the footer

  • Author

Thanks for the advice, my boss will definitely be happy with me tomorrow.

The site is now in Arial font.

No more underlining for (not linked) text.

The product detail was changed.

The footer problem was fixed.

Any other things I can fix on?

It seems as if it were like a site you just got pushed to after clicking an AD on a website.

Like those... "PUSH THE BUTTON" adverts... Yeah, I don't know. Not looking too professional.

Keep trying though!

The things is, I didn't steal logo.

Why would you think that...?

Your logo, before you 'redesigned' it.

Not being deliberately rude here, but just because you created it from scratch, doesn't mean you didn't copy it. I think google would have one or two things to say about you using their identity for your project.

  • Author

Thanks for the replies.

I understand I am still a beginner at web site developing but I really don't want to loose my job.

Can you guys please give me some detailed fixation of the website.

For example,

Take out this session and put it there...

Use flash on the front page instead of words...

something like that would help!

I already changed the font to arial so it's constant. (thanks for the advice)

Thank you all!

P.S> For the logo, I will redesign it when I can. Thanks.

Here's a few suggestions:

Work on the navigation - there's a real lack of consistent styling, making it appear much less professional. For example, the hover state would look better if it was the whole height of the nav area. Also, your drop downs having a big black background does not look good. If it was my site I would try having the submenus on a white background with a grey or maroon border, and have a more subtle hover effect.

Work on your header. The tick in the box reminds me of Microsoft Word's clip art, and that's not a good thing. Underlined text in the header is confusing. If it's not a link, don't underline it (unless underline is not your link style). If you want to add emphasis to online marketing service, change the color or font weight.

Work on your content area. Your text is all over the place, and doesn't have a consistent line down the left side which makes it harder to read. Try structuring your headers and body text so that they make sense together. Also there's too much white space in your content area. Maybe line the three boxes side by side instead of on top of each other?

Your right column I like. It's the best part of the site by far.

I hope this is the kind of feedback you're looking for.

[EDIT]

Also, make it narrower - I have a horizontal scroll bar for the sake of a few pixels, very annoying!

  • Author

I fixed most of the problems you stated, what do you think now?

Yes, these are the advices I am looking for.

I really hope my boss will find these improvements good!

Thanks notbanksy.

Please point out where the mistakes are.

Thanks.

That would be very helpful.

I don't think it's a big enough improvement - instead of making the site narrower, it's become wider, with a bigger horizontal scroll bar.

What I had in mind was something more like this - it needs to be simpler visually, your layout has too many disparate elements vying for attention. You need to present a clear message.

So you're honestly telling me that you came up with:

Without trying to replicate:

If you're going to 'use' a logo idea - it's probably best not to use the most globally popular video site on the net ;)

  • Author

I understand you point.

But the point of this logo was to be similar to YouTube's since we promote youtube videos...

Also, if you have a good idea for a logo, I will appreciate that.

I am working on notbanksy's idea. It looks pretty good!

I don't get it. Is the basis for this site even legal or do you just exist in some legal grey area? Surely YouTube and the like don't like the idea of people buying 'hits'.

  • Author

It's 100% legal because we use strategies to bring videos more attention.

I just changed my template, how is it?

Better or Worse?

Thank you guys so much for your advices! I appreciate your time!

Well, I know that my hobby horse is colours so I have to say the website lacks any kind of exciting element and it is plain dull for the eyes. I won't start a debate about the logo, I leave it for the others but while we are at it, take a look at your header: the logo is badly photoshopped and it still has some pixel fragments to the right. The text is low quality and blurry.

There are certain features in your sites that can be key selling points but they fail to draw attention, like the header. The home page is uninteresting and needs some structuring. Try experimenting with colour schemes and textures in your design. Check this site if you are running out of ideas.

  • Author

you have any tips for the coloring of the website?

It definitely improved over the course of 2 days after following the advices of you guys.

Thanks alot..

It sure had progressed.

Alright, the site is now narrow also which is much better since it works on all types of pcs now.

Thanks guys.

Anything else?

really dont like the below part, at first i thought my screen was dirty?

I think that can work if it is aligned with the contentpanel. Did you change the colour scheme and the content structure because I can't see it.

This layout could still be much tidier - take a look at this screenshot with the rulers I've added.

I think you should line up text to the left hand ruler, that's everything starting with 'Home' on your nav to your titles, content and images in the content area unless you have a strong reason to indent them.

The horizontal ruler is there to show you where the first line of text on the left is out of balance with the first line on the right. There's no hard and fast rule to say that they should be the same, but in your case I think it will make your site look much tidier.

I see

I will make it tidier once I get home

I have 1 more day before my boss examine the site again.

Thanks for all of ur kind advices.

P.S The color scheme is not red, olive green. black, and red.

It's called like web 2.0 clean

what do you mean by aligned with the contentpanel?

I will maybe change it to light olive green as the background so it's clean and part of the color scheme.

Thanks

  • Author

ALRIGHT!

The background is now changed to white.

All of notbanksy's advices were followed.

So how is this design progressing? good or bad?

Any more tips are appreciated.

Thanks to all of the users on websdesigner forum.

You REALLY need to change the logo.

1. It's blurry

2. It's a Youtube rip-off and I hope google sues you to death.

3. Try looking at competitive sites to gain a general idea of what your boss might be looking for.

For example: Your boss is asking you to make something professional for an "ADVERTISING" company. You wouldn't go to Youtube to get ideas for your site... Like the logo for instance.

You would go to

Google Adsense

http://www.advertising.com/

http://www.adgridwork.com/

http://www.advertisespace.com/?a=AAJJ3v

Look at theirs and look at yours. Whats the problem(s)? Mainly professionalism. Your icons are blurry, distorted and overall very unprofessional.

Maybe your boss should just pay a thousand or so for a Flash site. :) Be honest here, if those testimonials are real... I am sure he/she can afford it ;).

  • Author

Thank you for your response

I will get on working right away.

My boss is a very nice person though because we were good friends in college.

Thanks guys.

It should be finished in less than 5 hours, please review again later.

Thanks

  • Author

Updated today again and now it's pretty much in shape. My boss is pretty happy with the upgrades but he said I should keep making it better since I am getting paid for that.

I would appreciate any more ideas and tips.

Thanks. :)

  • Author

I agree with your boss. It's looking better, but it still needs a lot of improvement.

The navigation is very plain (not the drop-down). Is there a way to fancy it up?

Best of luck!

Well, the plan was to keep it simple since the old one was too fancy and

make it clean and tight so I decided to use this color almost like google :)

I think the navigation needs to stand out more. The whole top of the page needs to be stronger I feel.

Someone posted a "mockup" they did which was a lot better to be honest.
