New Hosting

Featured Replies

I just purchased a new hosting, which is heartinternet, it says it has unlimited hosting which led me to believe I could upload as many domains as I wanted to it. I bought my second domain and wanted to register it so they told me you have to buy new web space for another domain. So my question is, why do they promote all this unlimited stuff?

Also what sort of price is it to purchase web space for more then one website? Is reseller options unlimited websites?

"Unlimited" is a myth and a devious marketing ploy.

What you need to look for is a hosting account that let's you host multple sites/domains (often called "addon domains") on one account, or a Reseller account might suit.

With any host that offers "unlimited" check their usage terms and conditions very carefully because there are always limits on things like the type of files you can store and how many server resources you can use - fall foul of these and your account could be suspended or terminated without warning.

I only want it for a few sites to showcase my work, so it's not going to need any major MB/GB worth of space, although one is an estate agent website with quite a few pages but even then it can't be that big.

So is there any recommendations anyone can point me towards for addon domains?

Thanks,

Josh

Hi Josh

Something like the hosting packages we sell would be more ideal.

Real space, real addon domains, real people answering the phone and no nasty surprises.

You can properly host up to 11 websites per hosting account and upgrading is seamless if the need arises.

Bluedreamer is spot on though, "unlimited" doesnt exist, nor does "endless" or whatever word they choose to put on it these days, somebody somewhere has to pay for the disk space and bandwidth, and if its not you, then there will be a clause to make sure its not the host either.

I agree with you to an extent about unlimited not being what it says, but like phone providers, they say you get unlimited texts (which you don't if you read the terms and conditions) but they do give you more texts then you will ever be able to use in a month, so I guess it's just being careful and reading what you're buying.

I had a look at your hosting, is that the £36 one for a year? Or is it a more expensive one? Also what is your 30 day money back guarantee? As my current provider has it too, so just was wondering if I would be able to cancel it as I haven't had it 30 days yet.

I just cancelled my hosting so is there anyone that can point me in the direction where I can host multiple websites with a budget of about £150 for the year.

We could whack you on our Business package for £120 a year is thats any help? We have many many good reviews on this forum with regards to our services :)

Or I can give you a call to run through things if you are interested?

Feel free to take a look at our hosting solutions, all generous limits and no "unlimited" features (or any sort!)

Please get in touch if you have any questions. :)

thats a healthy budget. you might also want to consider extra freebies that you can negotiate with your account - maybe you could do with a nice helpdesk , billing software or something else?

we are currently offering free clientexec, free vision helpdesk plus a professional and cost free 0844 number with all our reseller packages.

Hi j05hr,

For your budget, we can offer you our Business Package which hosts 15 domains (with 12GB disk space, 120GB bandwidth) which is from £11.99pm (£143.88 yearly)

Full details can be found at http://www.markethosting.co.uk/uk-cpanel-web-hosting.html

Alternatively instead of starting on such a large package, we can discuss your requirements and probably get you down to something smaller.

If you would like to discuss anything, please find us on our live chat or call us on 0845 459 4314

I didn't rush straight into getting a new host as wanted to wait and get exactly what I want this time. When a company says for example you can host 50 MySQL databases. What does this actually mean? The actual databases or the tables inside the database? What happens if I had 50 databases with nothing in them or had 1 database that was large to be on 50 seperate databases?

I ask because on one of my websites, it will have about 100 different pages (estate agent website). Is this large for a database? Also if the hosting says you get 25 domains, does it matter how much is in that one database or it's got nothing to do with the other sites?

Thanks,

Josh

That means you're able to create 50 separate MySQL databases. There is not a limit on the number of tables you can create (though would be limited by disk space - its unlikely you'll use this up through creating tables, or that you'll need that many tables).

If you're creating 50 databases, it won't matter whether or not they had any data in them, you'll still be limited to the total number of db's you can create. If you found the 'need' to create 50 separate databases to run one collective database, shared hosting probably wouldn't suit you - as remember, all the databases are on the same server (though I may have misinterpreted what you meant).

That's not large at all. I think you're underestimating the power and functionality of databases.

Also if the hosting says you get 25 domains, does it matter how much is in that one database or it's got nothing to do with the other sites?

The disk space used in your databases is normally included in your total disk space for the whole account.

Thanks for the reply, yeah I probably am underestimating the power of databases as I've never used them before so have no idea how much space they take up with your web space allowance.
