here’s my 1st site, yup there may be a few problems with it, so please do let me know. I still have no idea why my top nav images don’t blend into the background nav as they should, so any help with that would be great.

 

Also I have not yet figured out how to connect the whole email stuff up, I did get a package with email included, just need to work out how to connect it up.

 

other than that what do you think I should charge for this? I've done it all from scratch, the photoshop, flash, html and css.

For a first site it's not bad at all.

the colours sit well together and the graphics are clean.

 

I think the grey border is a bit thick on the header (might just be me tho)

You've used divs and css for the most part, so why the table for the main nav?

also get some hover states in your links to make it more interactive

 

to get the email link to work just add

<a href="mailto:contactus@alchemyprocesssolutions.com">contactus@alchemyprocesssolutions.com</a>

wherever you want the link.

I know its a box standard basic site, but I'm chuffed to bits with it and so proud of myself, feels like a real accomplishment! wooo hoo!!!

 

anyhow, I have tested it in safari, opera and firefox as I have a mac and no access to IE, so if anyone can let me know its working ok in it, that would be great! And if not a screenshot of the problem would be helpful.

Sorry mate, I made just made the assumption.

looks good, but:

 

logo is blurred and the text is not antialiased

 

flash text moves too quickly to read comfortably

 

why layout your nav in tables when you could have used a list? tables are for tabular data...

 

how about a favicon?!

 

resizing text ends up with it disappearing

 

on key skills the blue text falls on top of the blue picture on the right.

 

pretty good effort otherwise though!

it looks like there is some extra margin/padding being generated, try adding

body{padding-top:0;}

to the CSS

also you don't need the main div to be relatively positioned and you need to add the semi colons to the end of all your CSS rules.

OMG Flash is way too fast. You gotta slow it down. 12fps but make each full paragraph sit for atleast 5-10 seconds. IMHO

lol, your going to laugh at my cowboy methods...basically I couldn't get the header (screenshot below)to appear without a margin at the top, so I built in a white line in my background image so that the nav bar (also in my background image) would align with the nav buttons I was going to put on top. I'll see if it really bothers my client, if so I'll have to change it. so its not an IE thing, that’s my background image, lol, its in all the other browsers too.

 

Also I have slowed down my flash to 20 fps, I don’t want to go any slower than that. You see I'm dyslexic and I know I read slow, so I assumed everyone else would be able to read at the 30 fps, but I guess normal people don’t read that fast either, lol.

 

The navigation is in a table as that’s how I was taught on my course, but if its wrong I'll change that too, to a list then? Maybe that will fix my colour difference in the background and the buttons.

 

The bottom nav is deliberately an image and not html text, hoping people are lazy and don’t type my site in their browser as I haven't finished my portfolio site, so its not live. As soon as it’s done I can change this to a link.

 

Going out to do a spot of grocery shopping now, so fix the rest when I'm back.

Thanks for the feedback, I have been working my way through the issues, sorted the link on the contact page but just a little stuck with the hover/rollover images, my code does not seem to be working, any help with that would be great.

 

Other than that I wasn’t happy with the header text myself, but I don’t know how to fix it, anti aliased? Any tips on how to do this?

 

My client has asked me to redo the flash and add a link to the home page in the top nav, what are your thoughts on this, although I will do it for my client, generally is it not a know fact that the logo is always a link back to the home page?

 

Also these changes are not live yet, I am just fixing them locally then will put them all live at once, so nothing will be overlooked hopefully.

Have to agree with most of the comments above. But it's all good learning right! Your client should be pleased with you for doing such a great job. I like the addition of the flash and how the site does not rely on it to function properly.

 

My only concern (and it may have been my wireless screwing up) was that it took quite a while for all of the page graphics to load, leaving the site looking very empty.

If that's genuinely your first attempt at a website, then you've done a fantastic job.

I like it, apart from the text just sitting over the images a few pixels, but that's here nor there, a little padding will do the trick... Great work.

Thanks guys, yes this is my first live site, I only did one other one while learning web designing on my course, for which I passed with flying colours, but still have so much more to learn!

 

Below is my fist site ever...but coz it was for a made up restaurant, its not live. I'm not so bad with photoshop, and flash I only know basics, but need to learn illustrator and fireworks, so many employers ask for it!
