Another great tool is backlinkwatch.com. It will show a fairly complete list of inbound links, the anchor text used, the PR of the site, and the number of links on that page.

All the links are very helpful thanks. It was more to do with how can you see the results on google? How do you know what to search to get it to come up? I'd like to also learn SEO and I've just bought SEO an hour a day but not had time to read it yet.

SEO should really be the other way round, start with what the site should show up for (the SEO company should have defined the core terms as part of their brief) and then see what your rankings are for those defined terms.

SEO is not some sort of plugin that you can check is in place. You can't tell if a site has "SEO" because you don't know what keyterms they want to rank for.

 

What you are actually asking is, how can I tell what keywords a site ranks for.

 

Search on Google for "google keyword tool", enter then website name, domain and any blindingly obvious keywords and see what comes up. That will give you a good idea of the keywords associated with that site.

You can simply check its inbound links at yahoo by using this search query link:www.yourdomain.com this way you'll know if it is undergoing linkbuidlng or seo process by checking out the backlinks of the site. You can also view the page source by pressing cntrl + u on the webpage and check if there are proper meta tags,title on that page. You can use many seo tools to check the site's statistics.
