Im a complete newbie when it comes to SEO.

 

I recently did a 4 page site for a client and submitted it 2 google.

 

When google indexed the site it indexed 3 pages.

 

It hasnt however indexed the root URL ie www.handspun.co.uk,

 

www.handspun.co.uk/index.html is indexed however.

 

Is there something I can do to entice google to index the root url?

 

Also any good books on SEO you can recommend

I'm very confused then because if I do a site:cyberwizard.co.uk for my personal site.

 

I get

www.cyberwizard.co.uk/

www.cyberwizard.co.uk/webextras.html

www.cyberwizard.co.uk/webdesign.html

www.cyberwizard.co.uk/portfolio.html

 

but for site:handspun.co.uk

 

I get

www.handspun.co.uk/index.html

www.handspun.co.uk/work.html

www.handspun.co.uk/gallery.html

www.handspun.co.uk/contact.html

 

My concern is the client intends to give the web address out when she gets enquires by telephone.

Her prospective customers are unlikely to be web savvy (her words) so if the customers type the url in google as many people do www.handspun.co.uk doesn't bring up the page they have to type www.handspun.co.uk/index.html or /work.html etc

 

My question is y for some sites does it index www.domain.co.uk/ and other times www.domain.co.uk/index.html and is there any way to entice google to index www.handspun.co.uk like it has for my own cyberwizard site

Surely that's not too much of a problem since people are unlikely to be searching for the web address! handspun is unfortunately quite a competitive term so just having the keyword in your domain won't be enough.
