Is Drupal worth learning in detail (Code etc.)

Is Drupal worth learning in detail (Code etc.).

I've been told it's very useful however not too sure on this....

It depends on so many things. If you want to become a Drupal developer, then yes. If you want to be an all rounder then probably not. It won't hurt to touch on it, but there are many well recognised CMS's among the web design community - you may want to do a bit more research before choosing one to go in depth.

Hopefully Guezala will pop along later - I think she has some experience with Drupal; she'd be a good person to ask.

Thanks very much for the info! Much appreciated.

Drupal is a very powerful CMS but it does require a lot of learning compared to other CMS's. For instance, you do need a working knowledge of PHP to do anything really useful with it.

If you can get on with it, and get to an "advanced" stage, you should have no problem finding Drupal projects.

Hey... my name was mentioned. I have been playing when time has allowed with Drupal and do really like it. It is definitely not as straightforward as something like Wordpress or Joomla (I have done a bit with wordpress and vaguely sniffed around Joomla). What I like so far about Drupal is the endless amount of modules you can find to do just about any job. Secondly, I have found some great resources especially a room on freenode irc called #drupaluk ....these guys really know their stuff and are all too glad to help. There are endless possibilities if your time is more your own than me; for instance there was a Drupal Camp recently which had a whole weekend of talks aimed at all levels of knowledge - and wait... it was free! Gutted I couldn't go :(

I am nowhere near confident using Drupal and there are many many other CMS you can try instead but for the reasons I have already mentioned, I am going to stick with it and try to learn more. At the moment I am just recreating a site I have coded using a simple theme and adjusting the css for that theme.

I am planning to create my own theme once personal stuff settles down and I have more time on my hands.

I have some great bookmarks related to Drupal too so you are welcome to pm me. I hope this helps some :)
