I've personally had good experience with Freshbooks. However I don't use it anymore and use KashFlow. It allows me to do all of my invoicing as well as accounting in one online software. You can also do PayPal buttons etc so has the same good features from FreshBooks. It's just down to preference.

Adding an A Record for the sub-domain beta.domain.com to point to the new host will not in anyway affect the main domain.
 
The only way this will affect the main domain is if the actual nameservers are changed (which is not necessary), or if the A Record of the domain itself is changed.

Yea, Eraser's pretty good. It can wipe to US DoD standards (different to UK MoD standards, which consist of leaving it on a train).

I'll just add that I was a big PC guy for year and years. In fact I was a warrior for PC in many of the past PC vs Mac debates on some other forums I use to be involved with. However, recently I was required to purchase a MacBook for some projects I am working on and I have to say for design and creativity Mac takes the cake no questions asked. Everything is intuitive for the most part so the Mac works the way you think it should work, not the way Microsoft thinks it should work. This really helps keep your mind focused on yoru designs and cuts down on a lot of frustrations that come when designing on the PC.
 
Now, I'll still say that I am a PC guy when it comes to gaming. My gaming rig will always be a PC. But for work and creativity Mac FTW (for me). At the end of the day it is preference. But I do think there are enough arguable points about why a Mac is better for productivity.
 
Good luck with Ubuntu though. I've no experience with it myself or I would comment.

This is a weird thread for me, as I've been thinking about this too, and the exact same spec model.
 
I don't want to get to de-rail the thread into a Mac Vs. PC discussion, so to answer your original question; I think that it's a question you really need to ask yourself. Things that come in to play are the price- can you afford it? The useage- will you use it enough to warrant buying it etc etc..
 
I personally think it will be a good investment for me (personally)as I already have a desktop PC which is about 8 months old at home, a decent Mactop would give me the best of both worlds plus the real reason behind it for me, is I'm seriously thinking about going back into full time education so a portable device would be ideal.
 
If you've got a friend/collegue who's got one ask if you can have a quick go on it, and get them to show you the interface, to determine whether you still want one.

I find PHP to be a lot easier when it comes to simple things like this. Why not just use your index.php, and at the top put

looking good, fixed width would be even better.
