Why would you create them for free?

B) This is not a simple question.

1) I want to have the big portfolio

2) I want to have many friends

3) I want to be the best designer

4) I want to give people the beauty

I have been working with a small forum, take a look at the results and recent work:

http://atbhost.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1713

Im not too impressed with this kind of offer; without sounding a bitch or anything but it undercuts the majority of us, and in fairness the quality ive seen isnt all that great anyway, id work some more follow some tutorials etc that kind of thing and see where it takes ya

jjjust so you know, the 'f' from the adobe flash is a copyrighted trademark.

http://atbhost.net/forums/showpost.php?p=2...mp;postcount=51

although, i've seen it used elsewhere, so they probably don't sue :p

Thank you for your comment!

In this case the symbol AdobeFlash is the subject of web site customer and is the name of common nouns.

That doesn't mean it's ok to use a copyrighted symbol? If i remember correctly, toys 'R' us are notorious for suing anyone or anything that attempts to use a backwards R or 'R us' in there name. They sued an Canadian company Nuts 'R' Us, but that's the only one i remember, pretty sure there's a few others though.

The F is still a TradeMark, and an infringement to use it without consent. Just making you aware that legally, you can be bit in the ass, and big companies, have big teeth.

You're absolutely right, I totally agree with you. Let us leave this issue to the discretion of the employer.

I would like to add. Those who order a logo right now, it will be done within one hour! Be sure to leave a message in this topic.

You're designing logos in an hour?

Speaks volumes about the quality.

Yes, of course! Your logo is ready:

B) The first option. If all are satisfied, I send you the source files. You can make up to 5 changes.

Always worries me, this kind of statement.

Olympics 2012 logo took weeks and cost thousands; it's useless!

Coca Cola was a logo generated by a book-keeper using a standard font used by book keepers at the time. It is the most recognisable logo in the world.

I have no doubt that designing is a skill learnt over lots of time but this person is offering something for free to help develop those skills and build a customer base. If the costs of the marketplace are correct then this should have minimal impact (or no impact) on the market at all - simply someone developing themselves. If the market prices are inflated beyond reason - then you deservedly have something to fear.

I for one wish this venture all the best.

If nothing free is ever any good then what about oxygen? hahaha

Wow - one hour is quite quick.

Then again - our guy can do a logo in an hour easily. Although - he usually gets a few push backs from the client before it's completely done.

I don't think an hour is too short to do a logo, especially if you have full specifications from the client.

  • Author

I do not think that will be ordered only one logo. Let's try again, you can order the logo for his friends, for the future!

My record - 15 minutes, with the client behind the backs of

Sorry for my bad English.

common... free logos? doesn't matter the quality... it messes up the value of what people perceive a logo should be. it hurts the value of all our work.

Rubbish!

Does a free meal mess up your concept of what food should be? What if you are given a piece of art for free - does it stop being good art or does it devalue art?

My friend takes some excellent photos and I believe he could go professional. He does it free currently because it is a hobby and he wants to build a popular base. Does this downplay professional photographers and their work?

Drivel. Leave this poor person alone!

Edit for translation: Good luck with your enterprise. I for one to support you

For anyone interested; Logodrom basically said he finds the comments interesting but doesnt understand them, and Gary said he wishes success and support for the project

Why speak in Russian i dont know :o

Спасибо! - Translation:Thanks

Please order logos. This charity event, all absolutely free!

Hey man thanks for doing that.

As I mentioned in the email we won't be running with the design, I was just seeing if what you were doing was a scam or not ;)

I am part of a partnership with an exceptionally talented (and experienced) graphic designer who will no doubt be saying nasty things to me when she sees that slapped all over the forum ;)

As for posting the image on the forum - I definitely didn't agree to you doing so or to you using our website to publicise your services. Please do not put our website into any portfolio of "your work" as this would be a copyright infringement and would diminish our company profile. You will notice that I did not provide a screen shot of our site - therefore you must have taken one yourself.

As for the service I can say it was very quick and the logos - whilst not fitting our company identity - are pretty nice. Good luck in what you are trying to do but be warned - there is no disclosure on your website authorising you to use company names, logos and websites to publicise your services. I suggest you add a terms and conditions tick box ;)

My fundamental question is, why aren't you charging for your services?

The answer has already been written before!

1) I want to have the big portfolio

2) I want to have many friends

How would we know that these logos are legal to use, after all bocaj made a valid point about you using a copyrighted symbol in a logo, and you basically said it isn't your problem it is the person who ordered the logos problem. Really what you should be doing is making sure that you don't use copyrighted material in your logos at all, it is your responsability as a designer to do this, be it your are doing it for free or not.

Also remember this is an English based forum and as such you should really only type in English, as that way you are being respectful to this community and not leaving people out of a public conversation :)

Personally I don't think that what you are doing is disrespectful to us, at the end of the day we get what we pay for, and as shown in the post above Logodrom doesn't care if the people that he designs logos for get sued for copyright infringement....which I personally think speaks volumes.

I won't take anything away from the logos you have done though, some of them are reasonable, just be careful about copyright though, as it will come back to you as the designer.

wow, this thread took off. I guess the negitive comments are from people very self contious about their own abilities and the value of their work. Doing freebies is the only way most of us manage to break into the industry, we work for free to gain the expirience of working to a brief and customer service - something designing for ourselves cant teach us.

Yep I agree with Andy here.

If people want to work for free then that is their own choice. You can expect a lower quality of work than if you paid £££ for your logo, but at the same time, free stuff can't be sniffed at.

This guy is trying to make a name for himself and is trying to improve his design by working for others, so good on him.

It is not a service I would use, and I would be surprised if anyone on these forums needed to use him, but to build a portfolio of work, it is a great idea :)

Good luck mate

You are absolutely correct noticed!

Not that suprising really as some people on here are purely coders and cant design to save our lifes (me for example). I know a friend that wanted a cheap logo, so will be pointing them in his direction.

Comment 1: I translated the Russian using Google Translate and then translated my English statement into Russian (I once learnt 3 words in Russian but have forgotten them now).

I had no intention of leaving anyone out but had assumed it meant nothing insulting. My reply was done in respect of their limited English and a hand of friendship. Thank you for translating it though - didn't think of doing so at the time.

Secondly, did I miss something? How do we know he is a he and not a she-designer?

Thirdly, I obviously add my support to the last fe supportive statements. I would also consider a logo design since I am proudly a coder and a very poor designer. I prefer to teach coding and leave others to consider designs. My sites are an attempt to learn some skills but it always improves my coding and rarely my designs. Ho hum!

Finally, anyone want any free legal advice? Barrister offering free legal support in the High Court if you require it.

Nah, joking. But what a deal THAT would be!

Thing is if people (companies) get a logo from someone that offers logos for free and it's sh*t then I guess that will reflect on the quality of the products/services that particular company offer (if that makes sense) - therefore companies that want to give a professional image of themselves would make sure their logo is up to scratch (free or not).

I think we are assuming too much here, Why does the fact that this guy is doing freebies mean his/her work is s**t, surely the idea is to gather a collection of work to showcase his/her skills and then at a later date when they have a decent portfolio start charging, so its within his/her interest to make sure the freebies are the best they can do, surely???

I have used many free pieces of software that beat programs costing hundreds of pounds, Free does not necessarily equal poor quality.

.. no no, I am a man.

Again, I apologize for bad English.

I would like to inform you that has been developing logos free for 4 years already. I have developed more than 1000 logos in the Russian Internet community. Here are some of my work: http://www.weblancer.net/users/Buba/portfolio/

..some of you do not look good, but they are made at different times. Keep this in mind.

Order logo for free and will arrive with your happiness!

I think the deal between free and paid for logos cant be differentiated, some people like it and support it, others dont

The way i see it, what have you actually got to lose? (except some designers, who obviously may lose a little bit of work to this)

I have as i said earlier, asked for a logo for a friend who wasnt paying for the site design anyway, so no-one has lost any work out of it.

If the logo is good, it will be used, if it it bad, it will be not. Either way, the 20 seconds to fill in a form isnt the end of the world.

1. their English seems fine, infact from what he has said he is very good at english for something that isn't his first language. My only point was that as this is an English based forum that english should probably be spoken, it wasn't meant to be an insult at all.

2. if you took the time to check his portfolio, you would see that he says he is male. So yes you did miss something :p

3.) As I said I think some of the logos I have see are reasonable for what they were made for, some are even really good. I just don't want to see a talented designer that could be great at his craft get into trouble for using copyrighted things...as free or not, should a company use it and the copyright owner find out they could end up in a lot of trouble and in turn so could he...as he is the one responsible for making sure his designs don't intentionally break copyright laws. Unless you believe that we shouldn't point this out to him, and we should let him carry on doing it just to get in trouble later on down the line?

4.) As a designer I know how hard it is to break into the industry and I have nothing against him doing what he is doing. My only problem is that he shouldn't break copyright laws just because he is doing it for free...he should still respect them.

Isn't it a bit discriminating to say only write in English and where is that in the rules.

OK so if I starting writing all my posts in Arabic then that would be OK because everyone on here would understand Arabic then?...

Probably not many would understand you, but it would be your right to do it if you so wished.

The point is its not exclusively an "english" website thats why its called the world wide web, if you want to post in polish, japanese or mongolian that is up to you, not anyone on this forum.

OK so if I starting writing all my posts in Arabic then that would be OK because everyone on here would understand Arabic then?...

Hey, I'd start with English first then move slowly to Arabic.

Those that cannot read English won't be able to reply to posts anyway and those whose English is okay but they want to carry a complex concept over may want to put it into their natural tongue so that those of us who do understand the language can help. Those of us that can't could even learn from the experience.

è che va bene?
