October 31, 200817 yr Ok, so last week (I think it was last week) I was fashionably late to joining facebook. My only reason and motivation was because a client I am building a site for kept on saying he wanted things to look and work like facebook, so I needed to sign up and see what the fuss was about. Now that I have signed up I have 3 friends (woohoo, 1 more and I will be on par with the myspace page I used to have for about a week a couple of years ago (5 if I include tom...was it tom?) ). Much like with myspace I am too lazy to hunt out the john smith I know from all the other john smiths on there. So the friends that I have on it are just from a passing conversation of me feeling lonely with no friends on my profile...or I only have 3 friends you can decide which on it is So maybe it is just me that doesn't understand this, due to my laziness, but what is the draw of facebook? what makes it better than other social networking....this isn't for the site that I am designing, I have the layout and I am just making all the pages up now. Its more of a my curiosity of why is face book special...I might just not understand it due to my lack of friends on it, but is there a reason as to why this social networking site is "the best", other than everyone and their dog seems to have an account on it. I only really ask as I am wondering if it is worth keeping this profile I have made after I am done with this project and don't need to look at certain pages that this client needs me to look at.

I think everyone loves Facebook because it kinda came out of now where like Google now everyone loves them, I personally think facebook offers a lot of personal Information being shared with people who are your friends or "Facebook friends" which people like, they like finding out stuff about you that you have not told anyone but was silly enough to put on facebook. In my personal opinion facebook offers a very simple way to sign up and it's really simple to use compared to the trick theme pages you can have with my space which is so much hassle. Facebook can be your best friend or wost enemy in terms of letting you know what people are up to or how they feel, for some crazy reason people have kinda deep meaningful convocations via the face book wall knowing that all there friends and facebook friends will and can read it it some cases. Some pros to facebook You can advertise your self on there e,g link to your website on your status and thus people would not have to go to your site via www. then can go via facebook. Erm kinda good in terms of seeing how beuatiful and creative people can be to make something a "good" as facebook. Dwayne
October 31, 200817 yr I hate facebook! I had a profile for a while after notmrsbanksy signed up and kept telling me how fantastic it was, but after the 100th email from facebook telling me that one of my 'friends' has made a bowel movement, I decide to ask them to remove my profile. Funnily enough, the interface is not set up for you to be able to do this yourself.... I'm with Dizi on this one. Why have facebook when you have email?
October 31, 200817 yr I heard this somewhere this past week: "Previously people valued privacy, today people value transparency." Perhaps that is the allure of facebook.
October 31, 200817 yr My wife loves the applications that you can make yourself, she has thousands of friends on there, always bumping each other? you can even buy each other? I think its just something that everyone can laugh at, I thinks its good when you have loads of close friends on there together... I yet haven't signed up I can't because I'm always having a dig at my wife using the computer for pointless activities such as solitaire, facebook and what not. quite intreaged though lol
October 31, 200817 yr Facebook is full of useless applications and stuff - a real waste of time. I have a profile - which I use to get the details of people I used to know / go school with / get plastered with. Then I email or phone them. It's basically a glorified address book. I can't be bothered with all this superpoke, quiz, application sh**e.
October 31, 200817 yr I use facebook a lot to keep up with my mates who have moved to uni etc and current uni friends really passes the time. As for the e-mails I turned those little buggers off.
November 1, 200817 yr I signed up for facebook when I first had my baby, and thought it was fab. Apps like word for the day and personality tester thingy drew me in and my friends list kept expanding. I found I was faffing on there for hours (when Adam was wee and mostly slept). Very addictive, but now rarely use it; get stupid msgs saying so and so fancies you bla bla. I liked the way you could find a group on anything and if it didn't exist, you could create it! Never visited other social networking sites tho. I steer clear now and no longer put anything on my status if I do have a peek; ppl I didn't like (BIG TIME!) were adding me as friends....what do you do? I plead ignorance (ignored them) Bad Rosie! In short; loved it, now hate it but has it's uses. Like most of my posts, not sure this has helped??!!
November 1, 200817 yr I think the main reason people love facebook is because of the UI and how different it is to all of the other social networking websites, due to the way it works. MySpace requires you having a seperate page from everybody else, with notifications being in your 'control panel' as it were, just like all the other sites, whereas on Facebook you have constant updates from all of your friends coming up. I've only been using Facebook for over a year, but I really like it, it helps me keep up to date with my mates that are at university and also chat to a couple of mates from home without the hassle of MySpace, which seems too advert orientated. Obviously people also like it for the applications that are on it too, but not me, the annoy the hell out of me .
November 1, 200817 yr i joined facebook a year ago as my cousin wanted to show me her first uni pics... Soon as i joined all these lost friends poped up. I now find it handy to keep in toach with prev - co-workers. Very handy way for me to keep in toach. However i wanted not many friends (as some people add anyone) however i just gone over 100 friends (something i never wanted to do) i used to joke 'facebook sluts' but i have a rule i wont add anyone i wouldn't say hi to in the sheet or people i want to meet in Real Life and i chat to on msn. (have 10 pending friend... not a clue who they are... i feel rude to just ignore them... so i leave them pending.... ) I like soon of the applications like 'poke' as handy when a friend need reminding of something.... And some are harmless fun... Plus it has the IM chat thing now.
