I'm currently creating a website that is going to be quite large. There is going to be many pages to it and in some of them pages the pictures of the people i need to be seen are going to be impossible pictures to get.

However i know this other large website that has all of these particular pictures i need. Whats the score on taking them for my own usage bearing in mind legal issues?

"Rules are there to be broken"

Rules are obeyed to stop fines and/or imprisonment.

Don't even think about stealing, just because it's "digital" it's still stealing. How about I nick your sites code and design?

Very true. Do so at your own risk.

Some rules you can break quietly without anyone noticing... like doing 35mph in a 30 zone, or photocopying more than 1 chapter of a book...

Other rules, should you break them, are like saying "Look at me, I'm a thief". I think taking SEVERAL images from one site, putting them on yours and then TELLING everyone about it (you're here). Is just a bit silly, don't you?

That's without dealing with the morals of it.

The fact is if you look for a legal source for those images, you should find they are relatively cheap...especially when compared to the fines that companies can issue (I've heard of things like £1.5k per image).

The internet has for some reason (I blame the .com boomers) bred the attitude that things should come for free. Nothing worthwhile comes for free... you should expect to pay for resources such as good quality photographs, other people's hard work, time and effort etc.

The images are impossible to get i have searched for them everywhere, So you are saying even though i need them as a major part of my website i can't have them.

Another reason why i was considering stealing these images is that the company is faceless in my opinion but that doesnt mean to say they can't press charges infact there is a bigger chance of charges because of this.

The website is the only people with these images is there a way round purchasing direct from them? How would you go about getting these pictures?

Who knows about niggley legal issues like exploiting them? can i take a picture of my computer screen when the image is there and use it as my own?

They might have paid someone to go take these photos in which case they own copyright and if they find you using them they could take you to court and sue you for a lot of money for copyright infringement.

So email them and ask them where they got them from, but don't just take them as you could get into a hell of a lot of trouble just for the sake of having these images on your site.

Just for curiosity sake, what is the link for the site? If we know what kind of pictures you are talking about, then someone on here might be able to help.

I looked in to it a bit more and found that i can actualy buy the photographs in getty images. I feel a bit silly now but its the first time i've ever needed resources from elsewhere.

Thanks for your replies, anyone use getty images and roughly how much they charge per picture?
