    What's in a name?

Hi from a new member! Just wondering what the name is, for the new logo design competition. Just that the URL and current logo read "web designer forum" but your emails and title in Google is "web design forum". Which is it? Dave
  4. I'm kinda breaking forum etiquette here by cross-posting but so that it gets more traffic I'd like to draw everyone's attention to:
  5. Hi, I'd like to get some constructive criticism and feedback for my website. Thanks! www.photoshares.xyz

    Web Designer Magazine Subscription

I bagged myself a cheeky bargain today! I got myself 6 issues of Web Designer Mag for just £5.15! Basically, I tried my luck with this competition and won £20 off: http://www.magazine.co.uk/spin-2-win-promotion There's no harm in giving it a go, as I got pretty lucky! There are plenty of magazine choices there- some are cheaper than the minimum prize of £5 off.
  7. What ho Chums! It's that 'time of the month' that we all look forward to - Members' Website of the Month. That's right, the Summer is on it's way out (if you live in the UK & Ireland area, here's some reading on this Summer Concept), so ample time to start digging your heels in to client work you want to showcase or perhaps that elusive project you've been working on for some time. The same rules apply as always. The closing date for this one is 25th September, midnight pumpkin fans. Please send your submissions to Teodora with the subject heading 'WOTM: September 2013' and the following info: Website URL Website Title Comments (should you need to add anything extra i.e client asked for blinking text) It's about time someone appreciated the amount of work you've done - why not share it with like minded people? Without submissions, there won't be a competition. Don't be shy. We don't bite. Hard... Any queries or clarification on rules, please post in the WOTM discussion forum. Some interesting concepts have been submitted and that's what we're after, so that's excellent. Before voting It's the concept we are after - not necessarily just "the best looking". Which makes sense? Which is most suited towards the forum? The actual design will likely be modified slightly to fit the forum theme as best possible. Voting closes Friday 22 March Make sure you place your vote! Reminder of prizes up for grabs! 1st place (worth £50) £20 Amazon voucher! 6 month Platinum Membership Winning thread 2nd place (worth £25) £10 Amazon voucher! 3 month Platinum Membership 3rd place (worth £9) 3 month Gold Membership Without further ado, here are the anonymised entries Logo #1 Logo #2 Logo #3 Logo #4 Logo #5 Logo #6 Logo #7 Extra information Further information about the competition and relevant prizes can be found over at the original competition thread. 9. WDF needs a fresh logo! This competition is now CLOSED You may have noticed a number of changes happening around WDF in the recent weeks - and there's still more where that came from - with perhaps the most obvious being the minor changes to the forum skin, released today. The new look.... The recent skin modifications are subtle, keeping the forum focused around the content. The main purpose of the changes is to make WDF stand out a little from the thousands of default IPBoard skinned forums you see all over the web, whilst keeping familiarity and reliability for future updates. The theme has always been (primarily) based around 4 colours (excluding #fff). These 4 colours have changed slightly and are listed below, courtesy of my indisputably impressive Photoshop box-drawing skills! You are not limited to using these colours alone - the guide is purely to help you get started! . Why the competition? We don't want this to be considered spec-work - because it's not. We're doing this because, without dwelling on the past too much, it's been a while since any community-based competitions were run at WDF...and we want to change that. We could design a logo ourselves, stick with the current, or even pay for one - but that's not very 'communal'! We want you to be involved with your forum. It's also a bit of fun if you've got a spare hour or so, with prizes going... The deliverable Your new WDF logo in .EPS, .AI, or .PSD file format The logo must contain a graphic accompaniment - ie. not just text! You must have created the logo entirely by yourself The logo should follow a community/web design theme, naturally, and should be styled to suit the forum. Prizes, you say? 1st place (worth £50) £20 Amazon voucher! 6 month Platinum Membership Winning thread 2nd place (worth £25) £10 Amazon voucher! 3 month Platinum Membership 3rd place (worth £9) 3 month Gold Membership Deadline The deadline for entries is the 13th March, 2013. That gives you 21 days from today to get your design mind flowing. Submitting your entry Please send all your entries to myself (andy9l) via private message! Who decides the winner? Well...you do. Once I've collated the entries, I'll create a poll for all WDF members to vote. The logo that gets the most votes gets crowned the winner - simple as that! The same applies to 2nd and 3rd place. Please see small print for information on usage. Small print/questions When you submit a logo you are also agreeing that, should it win, WDF will own all rights to the logo. You will be credited for your work via a thread on the forum. WDF has the right to modify or use the logo anywhere we see appropriate, even before applying to the forum. Questions should be posted publicly in this thread! Thanks for reading, and good luck to all...
  10. A client I work for is looking for a new logo using facebook. https://www.facebook.com/VacuVita/app_254553244581393 I personally think this isn't the best way to run such a competition but the price money is good. Do you guys know a better way to run such a competition.
  11. Just wondering if anyone has ever done (or thought about doing) battle with SEO. Much like there are design challenges, and coding challenges, is there also room for SEO challenges? The way I see it working, contestants are given a keyphrase. Just the one. It needs to be something mega-abstract that it wouldn't make sense for anybody to try to rank for IRL. Garlic Hamstring for example. I've put the term in quotation marks to get a phrase match. The competition runs for a set period of time, and then the winner is whoever is on top at the end of that time.. It wouldn't matter if the result was a: Domain - www.garlichamstring.com Subdomain - garlichamstring.actualdomain.com Folder - actualdomain.com/garlic-hamstring Page - actualdomain.com/garlic-hamstring.html (<- I appreciate that this could also be done without the .html) Hmm, thinking about it now though.. The domain will pass on some authority to the page, so some people might have an unfair advantage if they put a post on their already successful blog. What do you guys think? Is it doable?
