  1. Hi, I'm getting a warning when trying to send an email. And the email isn't sent Warning: mail() [function.mail]: SMTP server response: 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. 7sm3546969eyg.47 I'm simply using XAMPP and a mail() with to,message, subject, from header .Also downloaded and installed QK SMTP SERVER and runned it The point is that I used the exact example showed by a TUTORIAL (not copy/paste, but the exact file). For some reason it isn't working on my PC and can't find anything on google to help. The only thing I found was something about how you needed to change something for the TLS...but wasnt too clear. Here's the code just in case(but don't really think that is a problem as it is really a good thorough tutorial) but it's made for php 4 so a bit older... $headers = "MIME-Version: 1.0\r\n"; $headers .= "Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1\r\n"; $headers .= "From: ".$_POST['name']." ".$_POST['othername']."<".$_POST['email'].">\r\n"; mail('stefyx@gmail.com',$_POST['subject'],$message, $headers); Ideas?
  2. Thank you both very much for your help. SO there were 2 problems.1)You can't use apostrophes in table names, and it's a good practice to use back ticks. 2)Here I'd like a confirmation please to be sure I understood correctly. In VALUES these 2 '' apostrophes(those from 'stuff','other stuff',...)are part of the syntax? They don't say it's a string, they simply MUST be there?
  3. So this is the entire script error_reporting(E_ALL); $table = 'articole'; mysql_connect("localhost","root","") or die(mysql_error()); mysql_select_db("testare") or die(mysql_error()); if (isset($_POST['hid'])){ mysql_query("INSERT INTO $table ('title', 'content', 'author') VALUES (".$_POST['title'].",".$_POST['content'].",".$_POST['author'].")") or die(mysql_error()); }else{ echo" <form action=\"myscript.php\" method=\"post\"> Titlu :<input type=\"text\" name=\"title\" /><br /> Continut: <input type=\"text\" name=\"content\" /><br /> Autor: <input type=\"text\" name=\"author\" /><br /> <input type=\"hidden\" name=\"hid\" /> <input type=\"submit\" value=\"Add Article\"> </form>"; } I was at the process of debugging but I got into a problem I don't understand. I'm getting this error You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ''title', 'content', 'author') VALUES (abc, def, ghi)' at line 1 when I click submit. What's the problem..please go easy on me,just beginner.. edit: hmm...tried a few changes and now im getting Column count doesn't match value count at row 1 the table contains also an id INT IDENTITY(0,1) PRIMARY KEY really confused here
  4. Honestly,it's pretty bad. First thing I have a problem with is that it won't fully load.Tried with both FF and IE and altough the website is loaded it still shows transfering data from vernisaj.am.It just won't stop the "loading" mouse cursor. There may be a prolbem with MY internet connection or something but don't really think so. Then the website looks plain, boring and "amateur-ish" Stuff doesn't blend in together,it's just thrown there.Using a yellow background for the website wasn't a bright idea from the start but could've worked in the right context. The colors don't work. That blue just doesn't fit in with the yellow. Also I've seen this kind of bad websites before so gives me a feel of old website, made ages ago. Sorry, byt I just don't like it.
  5. You could use percentages and auto stuff. For the main container for example #main{ width: 75%; min-height: 50%; margin:auto; } But it's not really recommended as there are things you can't use percentages for, like images(And i suppose you're not making a site without graphics). I think the only solution to your problem is making the website on the most used screen resolution, and it will look pretty ok on most res's
  6. nice layout, a million times better than the last one (though I liked the header "paint brush" textire effect on the first) This final version is really nice and professional.Good job! If it was my website,I'd be happy with it

CSS it's really simple. All you need is to know divs and then style them.Divs are again simple, in 1 day you can pretty much master them. Tables are extremely complex and use so much code. With css you get much much better code and also easier to modifiy. Your site could be easily modified to use CSS. It's just that instead of using 30 cells of tables(where if 1 is modified everything goes crazy) you just define as many divs as you need and style them with css.A simple example of the main container of a website. <div id="main"></div> in css #div{ width:600px; min-height:500px; margin:auto; background: #FFFFFF; border:1px solid #000000; } Once you understand it it's really really simple and useful. Also keep in mind that it's no programming language or anything. It's just using the attributes(width,height,color..etc) in the CSS.The bid advantage is that it has many unique&useful properties
  8. Yours is one of the strangest websites I've ever seen. Some sort of Web paradox. It works perfect in IE 7 but not so good in Opera or FF or Chrome. I'll review it from IE(though note that you can't leave it like that). The layout organising is good(where stuff is placed) but everything else is pretty bad. It doesn't have unity.Everything on the website is not having the borders connected to something else. Black is probably a good choice for the exterior but you can't use gray/dark grey/black for the interior of the website. Don't like the logo.Actually hate it. The entire website is too plain, just solid colors...Needs more style, more spice, more fancy details. I think you should put the entire website in a white background container and instead of using borders for divs you would just use a very slightly darker white for the background. Oh and yeah,I could've sweared it was made with tables ,the way you used borders.
  9. they all look pretty good to me except the one with navigation on both sides. That's just wierd.
  10. Well, I don't like navigation to be on the right part so I definitely like the 3'rd one the best. But you could put nav on the left side and it would look pretty good too. There's really no science, or need to follow the rule of thirds to the letter .Just go for something you think is best. I think you shouldn't get this specific, just throw something in PS,play with it and it will turn out nice(in theory)...

Well, absolute positioning would be a very easy way to assure it stays on top and don't see why you wouldn't use it. But otherwise you could simply use the code below and then place the image the first thing in the body. html, body{height:100%;width:100%;margin:0px;padding:0px;} There's no other simple way I know of..
  12. Can't really think of an"example"; I believe it's all about thinking the website in text.Important things are using the keywords in your title, all images ALTs, and very importantly h1's(even h2's are pretty good.Btw not sure if "google-approved" but there is a trick to use font-size:x px; in h1 class in CSS so that it doesn't appear huge.) Add keywords to the metas(don't use too much or too less,I think a good number is about 4-8 keywords) Now I assume they've given you keywords right? If not use some keyword research tools on the website's theme
  13. Wow,he's pretty good.Everything nice and shiny the way I like it.I'll bookmark his portfolio
  14. I don't know any javascript so can't help you solve the problem with the onmouseout onmouseover stuff. But that can be easily achieved in CSS. You would add this to the <head></head> section <style type="text/css"> #but1{ display: block; width: 257px; height:206px; background-image: url("images/hOME_02.jpg"); } #but1:hover{ display: block; width: 257px; height:206px; background-image: url("images/homeon_02.jpg"); } </style> This would be for your first button and in html, instead of what you're using now you'd just use <td height="206" width="257"> <a id="but1"></a> </td> By the way, stop using different casing letters in file names. You used hOME_02.jpg and took me a few minutes to realise why my code wasn't working on your site(checked "live" in firebug); It's not a good practice. Also homeon_02.jpg doesn't exist at all...
  15. Can't say for sure but in my humble oppinion a w3c validator cannot possibly understand javascript/jquery.So I think it's a no
