  1. Thanks for that - I'll have a play tomorrow!
  2. I have just bought one last week - very happy with it so far. It was £15 on amazon and I only bought it to try it out - I will probably get a Logitech trackball that is like a normal mouse, but you control the trackball with your thumb.
  3. I started by using Dreamweaver 8, and it was bloody useful for learning the basics. I now hand code all my templates and css, but always have DW running in the background if I'm stuck for code and I need a reference. I wouldn't design a site with it any more, although I maintain some sites that use DWtemplates that were built by someone else.
  4. I tend to quote for complete start to finish jobs, based on what I think I can get away with! I can usually get away with it, so then I am upset that I didn't try to get away with more! I always make sure that I have a full brief, and really drill into the customer that there is an additional charge on any work not specified on the quote. I do some work for a PR company that was let down by their designer - all on DW templates and Iframes. One site has templates, but also 40-50 pages that have not been attached to the template. It's a ballache - If they want to add one page, takes me about 3 hours to code the new menus into every page. I have thought once or twice about quoting them to overhaul the whole site and attaching all the pages to the templates, but I am hanging on in the hope that they will go for a new CMS site sooner or later! For this kind of thing, I charge out at £35. It's going up in the new year!
  5. A while ago, after learning the basics of web design, I ditched Dreamweaver and on recommendation from a friend, started usign CMS Made Simple. I have now created 10 sites of varying quality using CMSMS and have been very hapy - easy to edit templates and css etc. and very easy for my customers to update as long as they have basic knowledge of using a web browser and MS Word for using the WYSIWYG. I have been lucky enough to be commissioned with a largish job to produce a bilingual (Welsh/English) site, and although I think CMSMS would handle it with no problem, I am looking for the opportunity to graduate to something better. EE was my preferred choice after doing my research, so I signed up on their 30 day trial on their servers. I am already having trouble seeing how it is going to benefit me. Firstly, and most importantly for me, I can't seem to add static pages as easily as CMSMS - it appears that I need to create a new 'template' for each page. I installed the 'Pages' module, but all this seems to do is revert back to adding a weblog to an existing page. I have a tight deadline to meet, and although I would love to say that I can create a good site using EE, I don't think that it will be possible - the learning curve is going to be too steep. In addition to this, I can't see that my customer, with their limited IT skills are going to be able to use it. What do I do??!!!
  6. Thank you so much for that. I knew there would be a simple solution! Thanks a lot
  7. I have a site that I finished back in the summer, but still have a niggling problem that the background image on the h1 does not show in Firefox. It is all the more bizarre given that another site that I designed, with a similar bg image on a h2 works perfectly in Firefox. The site is Pencefn Feeds The h1 css is h1 { color: #000033; font-size: 15px; text-align: left; line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0 0 0.5em 0; background: url(uploads/Clean_Orange/h1 header.jpg); height: 30px; padding-left: 44px; } This h1 sits inside a div div#h1bar { float: right; width: 600px; display: inline; /* FIX IE double margin bug */ /* margin-left: 0; */ } Firefox does not pick up the image at all - not even when I 'View Image Information' in the Web Developer toolbar. The other site is World Sheepdog Trials and the h2 css is #content h2 { font-size: 1.5em; margin: 0 0 0.5em 0; padding: 6px 0px 5px 0px; background: url(uploads/andreas01/h2_bg.jpg); } I have tried all sorts, but am now totally at a loss as to why a seemingly simple piece of css does not work! ANy help would be gratefully appreciated.
