December 11, 200817 yr A while ago, after learning the basics of web design, I ditched Dreamweaver and on recommendation from a friend, started usign CMS Made Simple. I have now created 10 sites of varying quality using CMSMS and have been very hapy - easy to edit templates and css etc. and very easy for my customers to update as long as they have basic knowledge of using a web browser and MS Word for using the WYSIWYG. I have been lucky enough to be commissioned with a largish job to produce a bilingual (Welsh/English) site, and although I think CMSMS would handle it with no problem, I am looking for the opportunity to graduate to something better. EE was my preferred choice after doing my research, so I signed up on their 30 day trial on their servers. I am already having trouble seeing how it is going to benefit me. Firstly, and most importantly for me, I can't seem to add static pages as easily as CMSMS - it appears that I need to create a new 'template' for each page. I installed the 'Pages' module, but all this seems to do is revert back to adding a weblog to an existing page. I have a tight deadline to meet, and although I would love to say that I can create a good site using EE, I don't think that it will be possible - the learning curve is going to be too steep. In addition to this, I can't see that my customer, with their limited IT skills are going to be able to use it. What do I do??!!!
December 11, 200817 yr To create "Static" pages just use a weblog. Create a weblog called "Pages" Create a Custom field group for this weblog Create a textarea custom field for the pages main content Create an other custom fields as required Create template group and index for the pages weblog, set the weblog entries limit value to 1 Add your static page content as entries to the Pages weblog, make sure your URL title is one word, ie "about" Create links to your static pages using the template group and URL title... <a href="{url_title_path=pages/about}">Link to about page<a/>
