Hi everyone. I searched the forum and couldn't find anywhere that suggested a usefull tool to test your sites on all of the current and old ie versions. I use a very handy tool called ie tester http://www.my-debugbar.com/wiki/IETester/HomePage If you don't know about it already then you should check it out. Windows only I'm afraid.

it truley does suck. I've gotten used to it a bit now. I find I never use margin appart from margin:auto now. it's all about the padding

You could name the text feilds as something that google wouldn't recognise. If it doesn't know what it is then it can't autofill it and won't turn yellow.

I'm looking forward to when they update it to use the latest webkit. It will be nice to have some browsers available that are stable and that pass the acid3 test.

Yeah I think they would be better slower too. Customer asked me to speed them up so it has to stay.

I recomend a free javascript library named scriptaculous http://script.aculo.us/ your time function would be able to work alongside it to fade things in and/or out even.

firstly I would avoid using tables to set the layout of your website. Use styled <div></div> tags with floats and clearers instead. When using divs I try to use Padding and not margins. IE browsers tend to have all sorts of issues dealing with margins. Most problems can be dealt with using padding instead of margins anyway.

I really like it's simplicity. It is very clean and easy to find the resources.

visually it is good. I really don't like the menu from a functionality point of view. It isn't easy to quickly read all of the items in the menu because half of the time they are upside down and they are always moving. Also I have a bit of a grudge against entirely flash based websites. I prefer sites to have elements that are flash embedded within CSS and XHTML and for it to be possable to navigate the website if flash isn't installed. As your site is entirely flash it is displayed on one XHTML page only, this will make Search Engine Optimisation a bit of an issue.

There is a fantastic php function for processing XML named SimpleXML (FOUND HERE) The API is fairly straightforward

I have a few site that don't validate. They give me nightmares.

I write a spec that the customer has to fully agree to at the beginning of the project. I always offer additional contingency time as part of the spec. If the customer wants any changes to the spec that will take longer than the remaining contingency then I indicate what it will cost and how much it will delay project completion. With loyal/larger project customers I tend to be more relaxed. I find most customers I have worked with are happy to accept an additional agreed hourly rate for changes to the spec. Also I have found that if the customer wants radical changes they are normally unaware of the time it will take to implement them, I just tell them the cost and let them decide if they want to go ahead or not. At the end of the day, if they are paying for the additional work and accept it will delay the project then all is well.

Hi jamie. Quick Media Converter is a nice and simple video conversion program that you could use to shrink those mpeg's down. I recommend that you convert it to wmv or an mpeg4. mov (As both allow streaming.) FLV video isn't ideal unless you have a flash player embedded on the site to play it. If you get hold of or code an embedable swf flv player then you should go with FLV.

Yes that stops it crashing thank you. I will remove the javascript from that page but the bizarre thing is that all of the jevascript that is on that page is repeated on every other page of the site and they don't crash. Any idea why that may be?

Hi, This page of a website project I have picked up keeps crashing http://kvradiators.com/Products/CATEGORY_BUYONLINE.php I was wondering if anyone would be able to point out why. Background: the CSS isn't W3C compliant because it uses expressions to fix the max height issue in ie6. The CSS document doesn't cause any other pages to crash. The page isn't XHTML 1.0 complient because the images do not have alt tags but other than this it follows the XHTML standards. Pages in this site are (unfortunately) largely table driven, The page I have linked to also used to be but I have re-written it using divs and styles to try and fix the crashing issue. The other pages (e.g THIS ONE) do not crash even though they are very similar. Any Ideas?

Hello. I am new to the web designer forum so I apologize for my first post being to ask a question. I have searched google and used the forum search function but have been unable to find a solution. Does anyone know of a php function that I would be able to use to convert a TIFF image into a jpeg image. Is it even possible? Background: I made a website for my girlfriend SpinxPhotography.com, she stores most of her work on her laptop in TIFF, PDF and RAW formats. She asked me if I was able to add this functionality to the site so that she doesn't have to have to pre process and store images as jpeg as well as all the above formats. I understand it is simple to batch convert from tiff to jpeg in photoshop, it just would be handy not to have to (e.g if she want's to upload a tiff from her external hard drive when she is not on a computer with photoshop) Cheers Andy edit: I spotted the 'Server Side' part of the forum but not the 'How do I do that' part.
