Hi all, I have a bunch of MPEG movie files i need to show on a website, they range from 8MB to 43MB.

I have VLC and Quicktime Pro on my mac but don't know where to begin!

My Quicktime Pro doesn't seem to open the files, says 'not a movie file'

 

Can anyone help me to compress them without losing too much quality so I can show them online??

Hi,

MPEG videos are not compatible with Quicktime, hence why they are not playing.

 

it terms of size and compression I would suggest converting them to .mov or more popular .flv (?) which is a flash movie used on sites such as youtube.

 

A quick look on google and you should find a free video converter.

Quick Media Converter is a nice and simple video conversion program that you could use to shrink those mpeg's down.

 

I recommend that you convert it to wmv or an mpeg4. mov (As both allow streaming.) FLV video isn't ideal unless you have a flash player embedded on the site to play it. If you get hold of or code an embedable swf flv player then you should go with FLV.
