Yes me to!

I hope things pick up, I love the design of this forum and will be returning for updates :)

I understand a forum has to start somewhere!

We are here to help! I look forward to seeing you around the forum Baldnut & JC. :)

We'll be implementing Design Blogs shortly, so you can Blog your progress to the world and talk about how your getting on - (This comes with RSS syndication also!) So there's plenty planned.

We have just started but we hope to become a really informative and friendly place to discuss Design & the Web :)

Any questions, give us a shout :)

Cheers.

I think the design is great - but from a usability point of view I think the link rollover colour within posts is too light and text becomes unreadable when rolled over. Does anyone else agree?

Do you mean on hover/mouse over?

I guess I do - it's OK on a white background, but once you're within a post and you have the yellow/beige background, the text on hover kind of disappears into the background. Just my opinion though. I wondered what other people thought of this.

I see where your coming form on this, the link is a global hover colour for the site, but if I darken it a few shades, it should stand-out more. Good observation. (and here's me thinking the site was done!)..do'h

:)

could you not just add some kind of sub class so that when a link appears within a thread it's a different colour?

Like this [example taken from a site I did recently]

#navlist a:link, #navlist a:visited {
color: #f2f2f2;
background-color: #f2f2f2;
text-decoration: none;
outline:none;
}

#navlist a:hover, #navlist a:active {
text-decoration: none;
background-color: #f2f2f2;
color: #f2f2f2;
outline:none;
}

so basically if a link appears within a div called navlist it's a different colour to a list that appears within the rest of the site. I'm not sure of the exact name for this.

Hi Eskymo,

Thank you kindly for the code example.

As the link appears in so many places, it would be a task to find what div applies to which area and then apply a syle to each one. It could theoretically be done, absolutely, but it would be a gruelling task to say the least! - Searching all the templates etc adding the styles then testing, I'll give the darker roll over a try, and if that's not good, I'll give your way a try, Gulp! he he

Thanks again.

Ben :)

keeps you occupied at least!

he he, indeedy. I always like keeping changes to a minimum, as come forum upgrade time, it makes life a heck of alot easier :) - I always document my changes at the start of a project, but as time goes on, I often forget to jot down what bit's of code I have tweaked, so when I do upgrade, I just pray it all goes alright :)

I'm the same - start off organised and commented and categorised then as the deadline looms i just get on with stuff to get it finished. It's a nightmare coming back to a project some months later for client updates and wondering what on some of my code relates to.

Yes, Glad you know what it's like. I say to myself, "Ok, next project i'm going to document everything" - but to be honest come next project, the same thing happens, but I think documenting is only really needed for complicated projects like Customising Shopping Cart Scripts etc.

Also, i'v changed the rollover colour to a more darker green wotchu think? :)

nice...

hope it wasn't too complicated!

slowly....stayed in bed far too long this morning, but since then I've done some gardening, taken the dog for a walk and made some apple and balckberry jam. I'm now checking email and designing a 'dogblog' for my dog - how sad!

Blacberry Jam! - Delish! You'll have to send some over! - Where they from your own home made berries?

Designing a Dog Blog, You'll have to submit it to our review section! Be interested to see that, what are you making it in? Wordpress? Have you been tempted at all to make your own blog here? :) Sure lot's of people would love to hear progress and tips on Flash and Animation, I know i'd subscribe to RSs for updates! :)

Ben

Nope I'm just doing a straight website I think. I find the like of wordpress too complicated to set up. I downloaded wordpress a while back as I thought it would be a good thing to learn to use and it took me ages to set up a database with my hosting as I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to MySQL, but I managed it eventually and then gave up as I couldn't be bothered figuring out how to style the blog to my own design - I'm so lazy!

Once I've designed it maybe I'll relook at the wordpress thing, but maybe not.

  • 5 years later...

since everybody else seems to be at it I thought I would try and win the prize for resurrecting the oldest thread on the forum..

should keep the mods happy
