  1. Hey there, what software are you using?
  2. Heyhey, I am currently in an apprenticeship in a web agency and noticed some time ago that my coworkers and my boss are still using grid systems with fixed numbers (no mobile first approach). They also never minify anything and don't use any preprocessor. I tought myself to use % and vm/vh/vmax units and SASS where ever possible. Here one person writes a websites and another one has to make it responsive. A cruel job for me since I am the one doing a lot of responsive work for others. I'm getting mad here. Any advice on how to kindly tell my coworkers to learn mobile first design? To be honest...I'm kinda scared about this talk since they seem to know so much better.

  5. I wanted to start working on a CSS grid based on flexbox which only works with IE10+. So good to hear that.
  6. You actually can't apply filters to background images when you have other content inside the same tag. The background image needs its own div tag. At least this is how I solved this issue once. Hope it works for you. <div class="bg"></div> <div class="content"> <h1></h1> <p></p> </div>
  7. Why so vague? Why not tell us where exactly you're stuck? I used their services and never had a problem.
  8. Interesting that you marked your own post as best answer even though it doesn't contain one. Did you even try to use Google to look for the solution? http://www.w3schools.com/jquery/event_hover.asp https://api.jquery.com/hover/
  9. LESS is a good idea but better would be its SASS version since BS 4 focuses only on SASS as preprocessor language. I'm talking about SCSS here, not the original SASS syntax.
  10. I think you mean you want some image caption to appear when you hover over the image. You don't need jQuery. CSS can do the trick as well. 1) Add some text under your image. <li> <img src="..."/> <p class="caption">Some text</p> </li> 2) Set the text above the image and make it visible on hover. li { position: relative; } .caption { position: absolute; bottom: 0; opacity: 0; transition: .4s ease; /* smooth fade in/out */ } li:hover .caption { opacity: 1; }
  11. Heyhey mate. How to set same height for columns 1) Everytime you float something, you need to clear the float afterwards so the content doesn't collapse. <div id="midden"></div> <div id="mid"></div> <div id="rechts"></div> <div class="clear"></div> .clear { clear: both; } 2) Wrap your three divs into another div and make it a table. Give your columns a class and make it as high as the container. <div class="container"> <div id="midden" class="column"></div> <div id="mid" class="column"></div> <div id="rechts" class="column"></div> <div class="clear"></div> </div> .container { display: table; margin: 0 auto; /* centers the content */ } .column { display: table-cell; height: 100%; }
  12. Tags like article don't get looked at by Google but readability is a huge point. Always use the new tags if possible. Just a little note on the side: With Polymer you can even add your own tags and give them meaning. Like <googlemaps></googlemaps>
  13. Heyhey, personally I prefer Wordpress. Haven't had a look into Squarespace yet. In WP you can set up different user roles which enables specific visitors to see specific sites, register forms or whatever you need to hide from normal visitors. You could write the website as far as you can and let a WP developer implement your theme and maybe make it a bit dynamic with the ability to change content via the admin area.
  14. "I'd never hire a front-end developer based on whether or not the know Bootstrap or Foundation." I actually know of a couple of small agencies which might not have the money for highly skilled programmers and be happy to handle at least a framework everybody can understand. Furthermore if the whole team adapts a specific system, you can work more efficient. Doesn't mean you have to use the complete BS style sheet but small fractions.
  15. This is what Bootstrap 4 is changing regarding your nav situation. Will make it easier to override custom CSS statements. Yay! Navs Dropped nearly all > selectors for simpler styling via un-nested classes. Instead of HTML-specific selectors like .nav > li > a, we use separate classes for .navs, .nav-items, and .nav-links. This makes your HTML more flexible while bringing along increased extensibility.
  16. Hey Smith, thanks for your reply. Oh, I already set everything up and played with it. I'm familiar with the command line. I just need reasons for using it instead of Prepros or CodeKit since these apps are as fast and have similar possibilities. When using Prepros you get a config file which can be transfered with your project data so your team is on the same level. I understand that Bower, Node etc are in need of command line usage but that wasn't my question.
  17. Heyhey, I looked into Grunt/Gulp and their automations like minifying, concatenation, image optimization, live reload and error hinting. It all works fine but why setting up all this and maybe having a stressful use with the command line if you can just use an app like Prepros or CodeKit? I understand that Task Managers can also stuff like creating folders, copy/remove files and a bit more but I don't need this in my personal workflow. Can anyone explain to me why I should still use a Task Manger Script or is it really just a matter of taste in the end?
