rcraig12 reacted to Fuzzy Logic in A bit of help please guysNo reason for that, it's what the forums are for, to debate and scrutinise as well as help

rcraig12 reacted to Fuzzy Logic in A bit of help please guysI think you are wrong, I understand marketing perfectly because design is a part of marketing, not 'pretty pictures' they are one and the same
that's why I don't tell people that marketing is unnessesary, I simply tell them about design, the subject I directly know best
Marketing attracts and so does design, but design includes user experience and much more, people remember an experience not words..
They remember how they felt when they dealt with a company, they remember someone's product by its ease of use, they remember the feeling of great service, if you can appeal to people on an emotional level, it has far more impact than people realise.
People don't read on the internet, they scan, the adage is true, a picture tells a thousand words, design tells the story faster than words but only if it's done right, that is design and marketing, making sure the audience gets the message you want them to recieve as fast and as simply as possible.

rcraig12 reacted to Fuzzy Logic in A bit of help please guysLol, it's your thread it can go wherever you like ;-)

rcraig12 reacted to Fuzzy Logic in A bit of help please guysI have mentioned time and time again that designers (proper designers) are not obsessed with looks, they are obsessed with making it right for the audience.
Also I seriously disagree about the branding, without an identity, a good one, you are unlikely to attract and keep clients unless of course you think your business is so unique that no matter how rubbish your branding people will purchase off you and remember your company through your products, but if you have products then your branding is already there.
There are also important other factors, the message a client gets from a design and the user experience, if that's bad, you can forget repeat business
Marketing is a very important part of getting your business known it won't get your business remembered for important repeat business
I'm sorry but your statement is a warped perspective of what design is that is typically the view of those who nothing about it.

Build websits for people not search engines, Google is just a tool and like any tool if it's overused it can cause damage.
-
rcraig12 reacted to Climber in A bit of help please guysDesigners get caught up on how things look. It's much more important to get the essentials right.
You should work out exactly what your message is (and how you are going to persuade people to part with their money), and then use design to make it pretty afterwards.
You don't build a business around a brand, you build a brand around your business.
-
rcraig12 reacted to Climber in A bit of help please guysI wouldn't get too caught up on specific research for branding purposes. The market and marketing research you had done which told you that this project was worth doing will be more than enough (assuming it was done properly). Actually, I wouldn't worry too much about branding either. I speak to business owners every day who think they need a 'brand' , and they are usually wrong.
As long as you have found a decent operational advantage, that you can convert into a decent competitive advantage, the rest is academic.

rcraig12 reacted to BrowserBugs in A bit of help please guysHe who dares my son ...
-
rcraig12 reacted to BrowserBugs in A bit of help please guysNope, not guessing anything just was trying to help as rcs is a printer I use and is 3rd for 'rcs' in uk search along with Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and The Royal College of Surgeons.
-
rcraig12 reacted to Fuzzy Logic in A bit of help please guysA web design and web hosting company where it's not important to have online marketing and your work would not even be in your own country?
I'm sorry but I am stumped as to how that could work but as I said before good luck with it.
-
rcraig12 reacted to Fuzzy Logic in A bit of help please guysSorry, can't tell you if it's different in Scotland, must be the same, at least for now
-
rcraig12 reacted to Fuzzy Logic in A bit of help please guysCost is relative, it's one of those things where you need to work out what it is you need and the designer quotes on time and supplies, expect anywhere from £1000.00 upwards at the very least for a reasonable priced designer
-
rcraig12 reacted to BrowserBugs in A bit of help please guysYes it was mainly search wise if they wanted to make a chain of industries called RCS.
-
rcraig12 reacted to BrowserBugs in A bit of help please guysHi,
Just wanted to make sure you knew http://www.rcs.plc.uk/ exists, just a heads up for when pushing RCS as a brand / search term.
Thanks
-
rcraig12 reacted to Fuzzy Logic in A bit of help please guysI do believe that you can register a business and use it's initials whether those initials are used currently or not.. At least in the uk.
Actually, I correct myself to your post, I did not see 'search term'

rcraig12 reacted to Fuzzy Logic in A bit of help please guysI would not really suggest it as an ideal situation but until you have your branding tip top it's probably best, also at the same time it might give you a better idea of who will be buying off you, making your research a little better -
rcraig12 reacted to davep in A bit of help please guyshow can you set up a web design company *before* you have your branding sorted out? sounds like you're putting the cart before the horse
also without any idea of your brand how can we give you an idea of what sort of logo would reflect it?
what does RCS stand for ?
for now i would go as advised and have a simple text logo there while you decide on your branding. not sure how you can build a site yet without knowing that because it affects the whole look of the site - at every design step from typography, to white space to how rounded your corners are it all has to fit in with your brand. Also your sales copy will be done from this too...
-
rcraig12 reacted to Fuzzy Logic in A bit of help please guysThe key with design is that unless you put in the research for your audience, it's not going to do any good and you would be better off with nothing, at least that way the company will not look like a bad company as design can influence how your audience perceives your services, but I wish you well.
-
rcraig12 reacted to Fuzzy Logic in A bit of help please guysThe first step is always research
Research your demographic, who, what, where, why
Research your field, who, what, where, why
Research colours, styles, fonts and their meanings
Research logos, why are logos the way they are, understand a logos meaning
Then create some branding guidelines
Draw some logo concepts
Get some opinions on your guidelines, the fonts, colours, style etc
Lastly bring it all together.. A logo is not branding, branding is a whole package of style.
A top tip: when it comes to your logo, don't try to be too smart.. Keep it simple but also with a clear message
