  1. really like that website, brilliant stuff
  2. I've just noticed the e-commerce forum I will take a look at a few of the suggestions made there.
  3. Hi, I've done a few websites here and there but mainly brochure type things. My last one was slightly different in that I used wordpress as a cms and designed a front end for it. Now I have potentially two jobs lined up but both will require an element of online shopping. I was thinking I would probably have to tackle something like joomla for this? or is there an easier option?. In both cases there would'nt be a huge range of products on the sites. any help or pointers would be much appriciated. Thanks, Jamie
  4. TBH I have'nt noticed SQL queries taking that long. However I keep noticing intermittent downtime which is very irritating. I am moving a few domains away from streamline due to overall bad performance. However I am going to leave a few of my non-critical domains there for the time being.

Would you recommend I should add my finished sites then to my facebook account somewhere then ?
  6. JamieB replied to JamieB's topic in Website Marketing
Unfortunately not, although I did submit them to http://www.dmoz.org/ recently. womble.. the pages have definitely been indexed as they appear on my list of external backlinks to my own site. I suppose I was just wondering if there was some basic things to do to even get a site a page ranking of one.

Well that is the strange thing. The first one has been live for approx 5 months and no I have'nt disabled spiders from indexing.
  8. I have completed a couple of websites for clients which are now live but two of them are still on page rank zero. I know technically it isn't down to me to provide after design web promotion (I have'nt charged for it after all) but I feel I should at least do something for their poor google ranking. The sites are fairly search engine friendly with sitemaps etc. Any advice would be much appriciated.
  9. I could do but I'm thinking the best solution is a different hosting company. There hasn't been anymore downtime since Saturday anyway you'll be pleased to hear.
  10. This was streamline's reply. At least the typo indicates it wasn't another automated response.
  11. Thanks for the welcome everyone. A year or so ago I probably would have been asking all sorts of basic questions in this forum. Hopefully any questions I now have will be a bit more challenging, and perhaps I might even be able to offer a bit of help here and there.
  12. phew !!.. that was a quick reply No problem. I'll let you know how the situation progresses.
  13. The smtp problem doesn't have anything to do with mail forms although those mails might be affected. It is just that authsmtp.streamline.net is very slow sometimes. I've seen email take over 16 hours to get delivered, and it happens a bit too often for my liking. As for the SQL issue. My db is on MySQL 13 88.208.244.124 which has been terrible in the two weeks the site has started using it. You might be a bit concerned to hear that it is also a wordpress powered site with a template I amended. It has been frustrating as I think I have done quite well in working out how wordpress works and setting it up only to be let down by streamline. You might be completely fine on another one of their servers so maybe its just my bad luck. I have asked them to move the db to a more reliable server but haven't had a reply yet .. Good luck anyway Karlos.
  14. I'm having major problems with streamline.net at the moment. Their smtp server has always been problematic which has reflected badly on me to a few of my customers. However I recently started using one of their SQL servers and its been a complete disaster. Down 3 times within 10 ten days, probably 4 days downtime in total. It's probably the straw that breaks the camels back. As soon as I find a better budget hosting provider I will move the domains from them.
  15. Since this seems to be the thing to do (very friendly I must say).. here is my thread to say hello to everyone at the forum. I'm Jamie. Self employed doing mainly technical support but also a bit of web design.
