First of all don't get discouraged, it's not like proffesional designers have all those ideas popping from knowhere, there are some steps that you can follow, that will make generating ideas much easier. There are many techniques of web design, lots of them are similar, but the most important thing is, they are just guidelines for doing the right thing. I think you should buy some easy to read book for a starter, i suggest ,,Principles of beatiful Web Design" by Jason Beaird, he goes through process of web design. From the top of my head, the general pattern is: - gather information about your subject, try to get know the culture, the history, check other websites about same topic, google photos about your subject (for example coffe) - Having a bit of knowledge, you can decide what aspects of you ,,clients'' services are more important, you can start building an information hierarchy of the web (assuming you've got content, which is most important), this is also called wireframing - Having informations about the culture, the photos, the sites, add some creativity, by defining emotions, that you want to share with user (for example calm, excitment, even neutrality), this will lead you to chosing color scheme, as well as picking font (which isn't that easy task, but you can read upon color theory and font theory for web design without problems, i'll add some resources to the post) - Now is the time for some actual photoshop (or w/e) work, this is the most creative part that you have to do, but having the site structure i think u can manage it, try to play around with elements, i'd suggest starting from less to more detailed elements (from bg to font shadow of some low hierarchy header). It could be the most frustrating, but most satisfying part as well. My personal pointer for desinging is to make sure, every element on page and it's design, has a purpose ( for example my background for coffee site is light beige, beacuse it's not distracting, but keeps the feeling of the coffee, that is main subject of site ). Hello, It got me thinking about current state of web design, and i come into conclusion, that most of the sites nowadays base strongly around black/grey/white composition, well to be more precise, i'm talking about background mostly (well thing that affects the overall ,,colorfeel'' of the website). And as i'm doing some design work i've found myself going towards that as well, because designing on let's say light grayish/white background makes every project so much easier to do, but on the other way making a colorful background composition feels 10 times harder to work through. The only solution that is really popular nowaday, is putting an image/ blurry image, but that goes right mostly on minimalistic designs. What do you think?

Hello friend, Overall it isn't good design. Il'' give you some pointers that you should reconsider: Background color doesn't really fit well with the content Really thick borders is something that is hard to make work in web design, especially for a website that is kinda delicate like flowers itself, try going with like 1px grayish colours Font size is broken everywhere, despite using same type almost everywhere. Read upon some typography basics and visual hierarchy in web design. Don't bold all font text, your html semantics is far from being good as well. The shopping cart and mail ,,icon'' is far too big and it's kinda hard to tell if it's clickable from visitors pov Slider is too high, some laptop users will prolly see like half of it, and this is not what you want. But honestly there are more things that aren't right, try to do some layout tutorials, that would fit your purpose and try to apply some of the solutions.

Hey overall it's a good direction coming with overall design and color sense, if the minimalism is what you seek that is. Altho from my point of view, there's isn't much hierarchy in your design (in your work, kinda everything is equally important, except subscribe button obviously, but there's too much content for not having a hierarchy), which is really important, in any proper e-commerce work. To fix that, simply rethink, what's singificancy of every piece of the page, and revaluate them visually, play with color and contrast. Hope that helps.

There are several things I don't like, but if I were you I'd start with removing the ugly borders and paragraph bg, that ruin quite good color selection overall. Here's result: http://i.imgur.com/bGZsg.jpg

Well in 960 grid system there are 10px gutters on the side, that are often used as margin for content, making it 940px. So it would make sense if you ribbon would fit that 10px width, to keep it inside the grid. Altho it's usually bigger than that, so you can include it in both technicaly. Altho in design like this, where you have white bg for content area, I would obviously use ribbon outside grid, so it doesn't interfere my content block visually.

How can you explain you color pick? Since this color theme to that kind of services doesn't really feel like the best choice.

Hello I find great potential in this design, but theres some chaotic typography, lack of storytelling, best but hard practise is to imagine yourself as a potential visitor, how long would it take for you to realise, what's the site about, is it free or not, is the content trustworthy etc.

Hey To be honest, i don't like the finishing of the elements. Gradients and certain colours (like top head bg) feels like ruining the layout. It's something about color theory too, dark blue, doesn't realy encourage people to ,,get to know you", I would go with more logical color pick, something joyful, light. There are few more things: header under slider, it's too wide, for optimal typography you don't want to have more than 12 words in one line. For a advert baner, it's too long, most of people won't probably read it, it doesn't invite for reading call to action button somewhere would be nice as well everything feel scaled too big, or maybe wrong word, it feels scaled wrong, since it's not about size, more about proportions. slider shadow isn't too good, try something that feels natural

It's a good start, some elements are better (buttons fasade for instance), some are worse (text-align, overall chaos, bad readability). So my overall sugestion, try to clean, order your website to achieve better readability.

19k (19 000 ?!)? are you kidding me ? Plus the site is far away from being decent, not to mention it should be more than that for that money. I also agree with Creative Shelf. @Nublue i think that price actualy matter at some point, if it was a 20 pounds page, noone would pay atention to that, and focus only on design, but you're right as well with design being the problem here.

It's a good start but there are some things i'd like to point: Play with color, us lighter shade of blck, not pure black, and you'll see nice result "We are GE Design." is not a bad idea (altho feels innapropriate for a new brand ), but the font, and @font doesn't really help it looking good, The content text feels tought to read, it would turn away potential client I would remove slider frames and button (not sure about frames, but buttons for sure), make it scale for whole size of the content, and swap with content text, if its minimalistic, no need to point out: see our recent works, since its too obvious, if you wanna stick with heading to works tho, go with something smarter, like ,,We bring our passion to live" etc. Hope that helps

It is a design, altho a poor design. Using same structure but working on elements, to become more classy, you could pull off really beatiful site.
