I'm trying to help a friend out by designing a website for a hotel he has. It's a smallish hotel in a beautiful Romanian city.

 

I thought I was happy with the layout until a collegue commented on it, calling it messy, which it might infact be.

What does WDF think?

The facebook widget is broken for me (Firefox 10, Win7) - it looks like two widgets layered on each other.

 

I think the full-page image bg detracts from the content images.

I agree, i may not know much, but the background image is visually merging with the other images.

 

Again, i may be wrong but i would put a white filter on to reduce the background picture, so it seperates it from the other images.

At the moment the site is just a .jpg image centered on a html page. That's why the facebook faceroll is duplicated as I just wanted to see how it'd align with the columns once I'm able to set the dimensions.

 

I'll have to see what I can do to make the background image less intruding, perhaps the white filter would work.

• background is obviously too distracting, try lowering opacty etc.
  
• would ba actualy cool if slider and bg would come along somehow, see http://www.dcshoes.com/eu/en
  
• more white space, content is stacked too much, affecting the readability
  
• logo is kind awful
  
• lack of icons, make the whole page navigation more clearly

I'm so bad at logo design but I thought to give it a chance anyway. Is the heraldry OK, or am I better off just removing it? Also changed the font for the logo.

I would get rid of the page background, its really distracting. Plus the baby poo colour on the footer isnt very nice.

I think either you or me need to re-calibrate our monitor if that looks like baby poo colour to you
