A friend of mine is getting lots of particularly unpleasant emails which contain a link to the same website. He has had a look at "whois" but has found nothing regarding the owner / origin of the website. Is there any other way of tracking this down. TBH, I'm 99.9999% certain that the answer will be a very firm NO but I thought it was worth asking. Many thanks Rob

Hi guys and girls, A client has asked me to create him a website. He wants to use a url which has the word wessex in it. My slight concern with this is that wessex contains the word sex. Anyone know if wessex is likely to be blocked by net nannies in schools, colleges and even the workplace? Thanks

Hi all, I have a client who wants to be able to offer PDF downloads to his website customers. The PDF files he has though are rather large (up to 600mb) so he wants to be able to split them into more manageable chunks, say, break a 200 page document into chunks of 5 pages each. Is this possible? I was under the impression that PDFs were pretty much bullet-proof. Thanks

Hi guys, I'm working on a website at the mo on which I need to include a contact email address using a Contact Me button. I know there are ways of hiding the address from spam bots using Java but wondered if theres any way using php. I've quickly written this: <?php $mc="@tiscali."; $ma="pat"; $md="net"; $mb=".james"; echo ' <p class="emph3"><a onmouseover="window.status=\'mail\'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=\' \'; return true;" href="mailto:' . $ma . '' . $mb . '' . $mc . '' . $md . '">Contact Me</a> </p>'; ?> but, as I suspected before I'd written it, the full email address still appears on the site when you do "view source" and so I assume that spam bots will be able to see it. Thanks guys. I have told Google that the site is aimed at the UK (via Webmaster tools) though it looks like this may take a few days to come into effect. I'm also considering swapping my site from .com to .co.uk (I own both) although I'm a bit concerned about the possibility of going back in the "sandbox" for another three months if I do this. Think I'll wait for a few days to see if the chnage above makes any difference.

Hi guys, Bit of a strange one this...... Basically, when I first published my website I was living in Italy. I'm now living in the UK but, if I search for my site in Google with a check in the Pages From The UK radio button, my site doesn't appear in the listings. If I leave the radio button of The Web check then my site appears. It seems that Google thinks my site is not UK based although my site is only in English and my Host is UK based. Anyone know how I get Google to change its mind as to my whereabouts? Kind Regards Rob

I'm with you Expat on this one. I reckon I found the exception on one site and decided to design at 1024 after consulation with my client. Basically though, I stick to 800 x 600. Cheers Rob

So around 5% and falling........ Do you think we should now basically ignore 800 x 600 and concentrate on 1024 x 768?

Stats from w3c (albeit Jan 2007) say: Higher - 26% 1024x768 - 54% 800x600 - 14% 640x480 - 0% Unknown -6% 14% of the world using 800 x 600 is a lot of monitors...........

Hi all, When designing a website I consider the likely clientel when deciding on the screen resolution which I'm gonna work too. So, if I think that most of the clients for the site will be pretty well-off I might well ignore 800 x 600 and use 1024 x 768. There are lots of sites around (including some links on WDF) which won't render correctly on 800 x 600 but there are still plenty of monitors around running at that resolution. What criteria do you use to decide? Cheers Rob
