lewis12 reacted to user-removed in TutorialzineIf you're not already checking this blog out, you really should be.
It's written by a bloke who has to be one of the most talented developer/designers I've come across. I mean, there seems to be nothing he is weak at. His designs are crisp and smart, and yet he seems to have an extremely comprehensive grasp of both front-end and back-end code, enough to make any of us jealous. Well, me anyway.
The tutorials are fairly infrequent, sort of once every 3-6 weeks, but they are always outstanding and worth working through when you have some free time.
It covers such a vast range of topics too.
When you read through the blog and see the quality of the work being demonstrated, this is exactly the level you and me should be aiming for and I also feel it's a level of work we are all going to need to achieve if we still want to be working in the industry successfully in 5, 10 years.

lewis12 reacted to user-removed in CSS3 SpinnerJust replace the img tag with your div. Then target it in the jQuery, replacing the #loader id with the id of your div.

lewis12 reacted to DigitalSquid in li & img tagInline elements don't adhere to the box model too well, you'd need to give them a fixed height to make it wrap lke that.
If you're not too worried about supporting older versions of IE:
ul#portfolio li { display: inline-block; background: #FFFFFF; padding: 10px; }
Or a bit more semantic:
ul#portfolio li { display: block; float:left; background: #FFFFFF; padding: 10px; }

lewis12 reacted to greyhat in Need Some AdviceChances are your SEO guy joined a spammy blog network and this is the result. You can try and contact these sites and get the links removed. Failing that just move on. Work on getting your ethical stuff done and forget about them. As u say you are having good results so... It is unlikely that your site is curently under any 'penalties'.

lewis12 reacted to ayoungh in Need Some AdviceI would say if these blogs are fake and containing the same content and links to the site this would be bad, Google may see this as you trying to cheat the algorithm. This is usually used my black hat SEO techniques. I would avoid using such links.

lewis12 reacted to chorleyprint in Google AppsYeah, it's free for upto 10 email accounts then you pay after that. Go here: http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/group/index.html
Virgin Media and Sky both use Gmail
We spent considerable amount of time working on a good email interface to offer with our hosting but now we just recommend that clients use Google Apps because it's so much better (and the free storage is amazing).

lewis12 reacted to Renaissance-Design in Spambot coming onto siteIs it running on Apache? If so, the easiest way would be to add a deny block to the root .htaccess file:
order allow,deny deny from 82.192.75.151 allow from all

lewis12 got a reaction from Alex Perseval in Adding a margin to a google mapHey
I'd probalys go for an element, i'll show you what i would do.
<div id="map"> <script>google map thing</script> </div>
#map { width: xx px; height: xx px; margin-left: 5px; }
i'd go for something like that to postion the map on the page.

lewis12 reacted to mantis in Centuary GothicNo, you would have to put it on the list of fonts under the font-family attribute. i.e
p { font-family: "century gothic", Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; }

lewis12 got a reaction from Alex Perseval in CSS Image Slideshow?Hey Alex
Depending on what you actually mean by CSS Slider, your best choice would to go with a jQuery slider, there's plenty good ones on the internet and their not hard to implment onto your site and to modify using their defult css.

lewis12 reacted to Wickham in Navagation HelpHere's a tutorial.
http://www.wickham43.net/highlighthome.php
The second and third items use pure CSS matching pairs principle, the fourth method uses PHP.
The second item uses a different background color for the current page, the third and fourth methods use background images, but you can use text links instead that have different style, color, etc.

lewis12 reacted to porkchops in Navagation HelpThe only way I could think of doing it with JS is to add a class to each body tag to identify each page. Then, write a script that compares the body class to a list of possible outcomes, then add an "active" class to the appropriate navigation link. Style accordingly.
You could probably do it with PHP pretty easily. Grab the current URL, strip it down to the page name, and compare it with possible outcomes. Add a class, style accordingly.
Programming really isn't my thing, I usually end up doing this manually or taking advantage of the current navigation class in Wordpress.
