  1. Thanks for the replies. I have emailed them this morning just saying 'h, not heard from you for a while' and not heard back yet. I tried calling first but there was no answer. As I said, part of our wholesale terms is that permission must be sought before using text or images. This is standard practice and a simple requirement that the wholesale customers ask or let us know they are using the material. I have never disallowed any wholesale customer using images or text and provide a csv file with all the product information. However the issue I have is that they haven't ordered for a while and it is possible they have another supplier now, in which case using my text would be inappropriate. I just thought that it was a step too cheeky to copy and paste from the source code!
  2. Hi, I run a couple of online businesses as my full time job and web design is my hobby, so I'd really like to know the professionals point of view on a situation. One of the businesses is selling our own brand of skincare products. We have wholesale customers who buy unlabelled goods from us and put their own labels on and then sell on their website or in their shop. One of these such customers told us they were selling through party plan in their area and they had no plans for a website. They haven't ordered in a while so I tried emailing just to say hi, hows it going...never heard back. I googled their business name and found they do have a website, two in fact, one with the original business name with just a holding page and another domain name that is their shop. Their web designer is related, shares the same last name as one of the business-owners, so I doubt they ever intended NOT to have a website. (dad, brother, son?) They've copied all the text for the products we supply them with from the source code of my website! Part of our wholesale terms and website terms is that we own copyright for all text and images and permission must be sought before reproducing. They never sought our permission or let us know they had done it. As an aside they also copied the navigation/category headings but I was particularly shocked to see they had actually copied from the source code which I would have thought a web designer would know that is wrong. As I have webstats I knew a while ago someone was trawling the website and I said to my hubby I knew I was being copied (not for the first time) but never expected it to be a customer!
  3. What does warez mean? I googled it but: (I've got kids that use all the computers so they've all got safe search on )
  4. Any of these suitable: http://visionwidget.com/inspiration/web/68-wordpress-photo-gallery-plugins.html http://www.dzinepress.com/2009/05/15-free-wordpress-photo-gallery-plugins/
  5. Thanks. I've decided I don't really like the idea of using template websites as a habit so I've told her I could install wordpress and a few free themes for her to choose from as a favour, but if she wanted a personal customised website it will take time and so she would have to wait (and pay ).
  6. I like the layout but to me it looks unfinished. I like webdesign websites to show off some graphics, so perhaps something like a lightly grunged background, clean-grunge style if grunge isn't your thing eg http://www.wefunction.com (also they have a fantastic download of handy subtle grunge brushes!) or rather than colour perhaps a more interesting type choice? If you like the minimalist style have a look at these
  7. For the particular client I prefer the second one. The first one feels more like a posh shop rather than a service based company.

I just want to add that php includes really are easy. I knew nothing about php and worked it out after reading about it on the stevedawson website
  9. Personally I don't like websites that use frames because if I want to email a friend or bookmark a particular page I can't.
  10. I've been looking at a few of the premium template and wp theme websites that seem geared towards professionals with developer packages and membership fees. Do professionals use premade themes? Is that an open thing or like a dirty little secret? I don't do web design professionally, it is a side thing as and when someone asks and tends to be setting up software such as cms or ecommerce, installing third party addons or mods and some design. A friend of a friend has asked me to set up a wordpress site for her as a cms. Specifically wordpress because she also wants me to install a few plugins she has read about! She's given me some examples of how she wants it to look, nothing too fancy, just modern, clean with a little flourish. She wants it asap I was wondering if it would be cheating to use a theme/template such as from woo themes? I couldn't pretend I'd done the design, but would I need to mention it up front or only if asked about it? I don't know?!?!

It is interesting to read your views. I think the potential is very exciting but so frustrating that more browsers do not support it. I can understand not wanting to use it yet as it seems a shame that a certain % of people will not see the design in all its glory. Here's a nice round-up: http://owltastic.com/2010/01/a-collection-of-css3-awesomeness/

I've been reading about and drooling over many css3 effects and wondered what if any css3 you are using in your webdesigns?
  14. I had similar problems with talktalk. I was so frustrated, angry, upset and no one seemed able to help me properly. Finally after much angst I extracted myself from them only to have them keep calling and sending offers through the post. I have great delight throwing it all in the recycling!!
  15. I am not more experienced but just wanted to say WOW. I reckon you will do really well as you talk the talk of non-techies. And I love the colours, subtle background and cow Good luck with it all!
