Homepage file name

Featured Replies

I hope I'm posting this in the right category :)

Why is it that some homepage only has this address on the url: example.com while others has example.com/index.html or ./home.html or /home.php etc...

I'm assuming when creating an html for homepage you cane name that file as index.html or home.html etc... If I'm to create an html webpage as my homepage, how can I make my homepage url be example.com/ without the trail as above? Hope this question makes sense.

As a general rule most web servers are configured to look for a file called index.html or index.php etc if the browser is pointed to the domain eg example.com

You could type example.com/index.html into the browser and see the same page.

Hope that helps

But is there a way to just make my homepage point to example.com/ instead of example.com/index.html?

Wordpress blogs seems to direct the homepage to example.com/ instead of the link with the /index.php.

You don't have to do anything, it's automatic. If your homepage is called index.html and is in the root directory of the domain, then www.example.com or www.example.com/ will automatically find index.html

always use index.html or index.php - label your menu link as home if you want to.
