  1. if your link code is correct & the place where you indicated the link to go...this should work: ?php if($_GET['act'] == "generate_quotes") { $con = mysql_connect("*", "*", "*"); if (!$con) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("quote", $con); $result = mysql_query( " SELECT * FROM `quote` ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 0,1 " ); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { echo '<span class="pink">' . $row['q_quote'] . "</span>"; } echo "</table>"; mysql_close($con); // Darken screen link in here somehow? echo '<div id="lb1" class="lb"><a href="#top"><img src="1.jpg" alt="oh man" /></a></div>'; } else { echo "<img src=\"vpbgt.png\">"; } ?>
  2. For the image on the portfolio page, add border="0" in the img tag. As for the background image problem - I had a quick tinker & couldn't get it to work...very unusual. You don't have the doc type specified at the top of your files - this could possibly cause issues. I'd also suggest not making the site 100% screen width - I'm looking at it on a 24" widescreen monitor...makes for very long lines of text.
  3. you should be able to set the visibility to hidden while they load, then when they need to be displayed, your gallery script should make them visible again. see: w3schools - CSS visibility
  4. This is a really vague question. If you are asking how to create a layout, that implies that you have no html or CSS knowledge - explaining how to create a complete layout for a page whilst explaining HTML & CSS at the same time is expecting a bit much. I'd suggest that you have a search for some HtML & CSS tutorials - there are plenty on the web...google is your friend. This is a good reference site: w3schools
  5. You can reformat the date in php... reformatting php date info the date format you want will be something like: $date = date('D, d M Y', strtotime($date));
  6. Have you tried accessing the pdf from the link yourself?
  7. I've had a quick look as well - I would agree with the above....that looks to be the problem - if you hit more issues let us know as there is a lot of code to wade through there.
  8. Tables would be the easier way to get the layout quickly....but in the long run may well end up being more fiddly to work with & style. I would go for CSS - you shouldn't have too many problems with it. instead of looking at it as being a complicated form - think of it in terms of a normal CSS layout...what do you need to do - look at the bigger picture first, then fill in the details. So start by making the 3 elements side by side - create a class & apply it to 3 divs....when you have this basic layout working, then start putting in the form elements into these divs. Give the labels a fixed width so that everything aligns nicely. Where the label has to appear on top of a field, either simply put a <br> after the label, or create a class that sets display: block; so that the field will drop down below it. Think through it step by step & it should all be ok...I'm sure once it has been broken down into smaller parts that its now more complicated than what you've done before.
  9. Agreed, if you don't know how to do it, you shouldn't be quoting for it - probably an occasion to bow out gracefully rather than risk a big fall. As mentioned, Joomla will do this - there are countless extensions that you can addon to it, some of them are social networks straight out of the box. I used Joomla on a few sites - but I try not to anymore as with more experience I now find it more clunky & cumbersome to work with. I certainly wouldn't be quoting a few hundred for something like this - its a big job with lots of elements that need to work & that need to be designed/styled....anyone that quoted a few hundred wouldn't be building a website that met the spec.
  10. Why would you need to when they'll have a forward button in their email software - I think most users are capable of forwarding emails themselves?
  11. I think it also depends on the size of the website & the scale of the SEO project....you can give a website a good search boost just by linking to the home page - but if it s a large site with a decent budget involved, then deeper links would be a good idea - particularly if different products or product types are involved.
  12. When using php to assemble javascript you have to be very aware that quotes (single & double) can cause issues if treated wrongly....if there is one in there that shouldn't be it will stop the whole javascript from working - been there myself before a few times & it can be a pain to debug (some other unencoded symbols can cause issues as well). Sorry for not being more exact - its early in the morning & I'm not fully with it yet....plus you haven't posted the generated html so I can't see anything obvious that could cause the problem. As an aside....spry has quite a large file size when compared to other javascript libraries - Jquery is much smaller & faster loading, its also very easy to get to grips with on a basic level.
  13. firstly you would be better off using a css class in an external style sheet rather than doing it inline. Try this for the css class: .float_right { float: right; display: inline-block; } apply it to the span as: <span class="float_right">
  14. it needs images....a large good quality featured photo on each page would do it.
  15. Is this an online shop or is it some sort of quote system?....if its a shop, the prices must exist & be editable already? Not sure you've given quite enough info yet...
