History of a town, a database?
I'm toying with creating a history of the local town. It includes areas, streets, buildings, people, a timeline, maps, photos etc. It's not going to built in a day... The obvious choice is a Wiki of some description. I'm playing with MediaWiki, but it's slow and I'm the only user. It has other drawbacks too. And there's an obvious disadvantage to a wiki in general. You need to make the link on both ends.. Okay if you have millions of editors. Not so good if you have one. Anybody done anything similiar or could suggest a path to look at I'm looking at the prospect of creating a database from scratch but., as Facebook would say, it's complicated...

How much do you think my website is worth?
a mighty amount of affiliates... the retro website needs a complete redesign i would suggest the domain is as valuable as the website. as an ordinary punter looking to purchase I'd walk away. can't find contact details - found it eventually in legal information...

Website login help
I believe most of the cms systems (worldpress, joomla, drupal) allow user logins. THey may have levels of access. The likes of phpbb (forum builders) definitely allow this type of access because I use it myself.

£19k for a website - is it worth it
Fair play to renaissance for giving good sensible constructive advice on the future development of the site. I too would like to see what a 20 grand website look like. That's a year's work for most people.

Google Map API on Estate Agent website
I would recommend not using post codes. They can be very inaccurate if the property is in a rural location. Commercial property in an industrial estate which has a single post code may also lead to accuracy problems. I used exact co-ordinates for my last goole api project. It literally took me 2 days to sort out all the commas, apostrophes and quotes to get the code right. The actual logging of the exact co-ordinates took more than two days.... http://www.cookstownwardead.co.uk/nationlist.asp?countryid=17

Is this a fair quote?
Like the above, if you think you can have the whole thing done and dusted in a week, it's excellent. Just one obstacle to get round... the client..

Wordpress as a CMS
I too find the vast majority of Wordpress based websites to be instantly recognisable as wordpress sites. As well as that, I finda lot of clients demand a CMS site and over time decide that it's too much like hard work and pass it back to the designer to maintain. If they had done that in the first place, the site would look a lot more professional and be much easier to maintain.

PhpBB forum getting bombarded
I have a phpbb Forum which is being bombarded by rubbish from around the world. I''m moderating it so i have to confirm each post but I'm getting 40-50 bogus posts a day from all over the place. I'm banning ips and users (almost 2000 of each so far!) but they keep coming.. It's for adding details about local people who died in the wars. It seems to have been put at the top of spamming lists. Anybody any advice?
