Introducing RuubikCMS, new open source CMS
Hi, we have created a new "simple yet powerful" open source CMS called RuubikCMS. The main goals for the RuubikCMS project were: Easy to install & use Suitable for small & medium size sites and also for non-technical content editors (our clients) Lightweight & low requirements, only PHP 5.1 (uses SQLite as a database) Works with any XTHML/CSS template Just add some PHP echos to the template where you need the content No actual PHP skills needed Flexibility and easy customization Simple SEO management and clean URLs The download and demo are available at: http://www.ruubikcms.com/ It would be nice to hear your comments and suggestions on this one! It's a work in progress and this is just the first release. What features or fixes would you suggest? More templates, demo examples and UI enhancements and some new features are being planned. Extranet/members area is probably implemented next.

Multifunction Laser Printer - Recommendations?
I don't know if you're finished with Samsung printers but I've been happy with Samsung CLX-3175FN for about a year now. Very compact and silent multifunction laser with quite cheap printing costs. Scanning, copying and printings is fast and accurate. The cartrigdes run longer than expected and there's no counter chip in them. Very good for small business entrepreneurs. There's also a cheaper model CLX-3175 if the ethernet network connector is not needed.

Shortcut Key?
Yep, search and replace works but I'm really missing one feature of the previous editor I used. In jEdit it was possible to make these multi-line inserts by selecting lines from certain column with CTRL + mouse. Inserting and deleting would work on all the selected rows at this cursor point. Very handy and quicker than search & replace in some cases. Currently I'm using Notepad++ and really happy with it but this feature from jEdit I'm still missing.

Architecture Student Organization Website
Hi Brett, I didn't find it too hard to navigate. I think it's sometimes refreshing to find well-thought sites without the usual horizontal menu bar. Although my basic 15,4 inch laptop has the screen height of 800 px so on the front page I can see the three menu buttons (who we are, blog, toolpanel) without scrolling BUT on the other pages I have to scroll to find the menu buttons. Valid XHTML also, although my validator throws warnings like: line 188 column 50 - Varoitus: <img> attribute "width" has invalid value "170px" So it should probably be without the "px" like width="170" Nice and beautiful work in my opinion!

do I always need a database for cms?
Yep, that's true but in many cases there's an extra charge for MySQL etc. "proper" databases. Our solution was to create a simple yet quite powerful (in my opinion) open source CMS that uses SQLite as a datebase: http://www.ruubikcms.com/ SQLite comes with PHP 5.1 and newer so it's pretty standard stuff. No database configurations needed, very easy to backup etc. There's a download and demo available, feedback is appreciated!

Nokia E71
One alternative could be Nokia N900 (actual name not confirmed), the the first Maemo-based phone: http://www.mobile-review.com/review/nokia-rx51-n900-en.shtml Should probably be out in September and I'm quite excited because I've my N800 Intenet Tablet has worked nicely. Of course it's bigger than N71 but 182 grams shouldn't be too bad to carry.

XHTML strict ...no TARGET="_blank"
I think it has something to do with the hectic browsing style many people have. I agree that if the site has really good content, I'll surely come back. But sometimes I'm busy and not so focused - after clicking a couple of links I might actually totally forget the quite interesting page. I think with JQuery target="_blank" could be achieved so that it degrades nicely without JavaScript support. Must look into that some time. Now I'm busy

Nokia E71
At least it's quite popular here in Finland, I know many happy users. I'm using the previous version Nokia E61i and quite happy with it because I like to write texts with the QWERTY. I think E71 has also GPS and a better camera. Build quality is very good. Symbian OS is not so fabulous (occasional hangups) and that's why I'm waiting for a Android (e.g. http://phandroid.com/) phone with QWERTY keyboard + touchscreen.

What Google Services do you use more often?
Google Search Google Insights for Search (realized this last week when thinking of keywords) Google Calendar (synced to a S60 phone) Google Analytics Google Adwords Google Adsense Google Maps Google Groups Web Master Tools Picasa (mainly viewing and organizing photos) Chrome Yep, it's a little frightening how much their server cloud knows about me I even tried Latitude on my phone - accidentally leaving that on would also let them track my current location.

.html to mimic static pages?
Hi, I'm developing a CMS where you can add a free suffix to the page URLs. Google's own Search Engine Optimization Started Guide says imitating static page content is fine with them. But what's your experience, is there any point in putting the extra .html in the end these days? Will it get your ranking any higher? I think I'm leaving the option along with Clean/Pretty URL in the CMS, but will be not using the .html suffix anymore on my next personal site.

And another newcomer from Finland
Hi folks, and greetings from Finland. I have about 4-5 years of experience in various web projects, mainly coding in PHP and cooperating with graphic designers. Currently I'm working with (yet another) simple web content management tool. Sometimes I'm not sure if web developement is my hobby or work Looking forward to some interesting discussions, this surely looks like the most appealing webdesign/webdev forum I've run into!
