  1. Hi All, Im using a plugin in Virtumart that enables me to link files stored outside of my root folder to products for sale in my shopping cart, for example music downloads. I would like to order the drop down list in my control panel, because I have a lot of files and when selecting new files for products there is a big list in no order at all, its making it hard to find files. I am struggling as I don't understand PHP, could some one please be kind and take a look at this code and see if its possible for me to order the list. else { $attr='style= "width: 400px;"'; $html .= '<td>'.JText::_ ('VMCUSTOM_ST42_DOWNLOAD_SELECT_MEDIA') .'</td> <td>'. VmHTML::select ('custom_param[' . $row . '][media_id]', $medias, $field->media_id, $attr, 'virtuemart_media_id', 'file_title', FALSE) . '</td>'; } The code pulling the list is 'VMCUSTOM_ST42_DOWNLOAD_SELECT_MEDIA' I hope one of you will know a way I can display the list in order ASC. Thanks in advance
  2. Hi All, Is there anyone here who knows windows server 2008 well? I could really do with a little bit of advise. Im trying to setup email on my server, I have activated ADDS, DNS, FTP, IIS and SMTP Everything is working apart form the mail, probably as Im unsure how it all works, I have seen a lot of mentions regarding Exchange server, but have not installed this as I read its not good to install Exchange on a DC. So, how do I do this, with SMTP installed, can I create mail accounts for my users, or is this not possible without Exchange. Basically Im a bit stuck, Ive followed some web advise tried to setup the relay to and think I have the MX record setup, but when I drop a test email.txt file into the C:/intepub/mailroot/Pickup my mail is then forwarded to C:/intepub/mailroot/Badmail I have pasted the error below: From: postmaster@Vibration-DC1.mydomain.co.uk To: admin@mydomain.co.uk Date: Mon, 20 Jan 2014 02:39:12 +0000 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/report; report-type=delivery-status; boundary="9B095B5ADSN=_01CF15887FE2102200000001vibration?server" X-DSNContext: 7ce717b1 - 1196 - 00000002 - 00000000 Message-ID: <vMvznvWxR00000001@mydomain.co.uk> Subject: Delivery Status Notification (Failure) This is a MIME-formatted message. 4. Hi All, Im a very happy man today with my new BT infinity pro, was chuffed to get 80Mb download and 20Mb upload so I wouldnt mind connecting a server to this gateway, and use it for mass mailouts, Ive been having trouble doing large mailouts on my shared host over at hostgator so I thought do it from home. Can anyone please advise the best route to take with a dynamic DNS service, Ive never used one, and would be grateful for advise on which to use for the large mailouts I want to do Many thanks Tobes
  5. PC or MAC?

Sorry I jumped a fair few posts in this thread, my opinion is: Windows is always open to attack and vulnerabilities, after a year of use, you have no clue what could be residing on your machine, it also needs to be defragmented often, when using in a critical environment where you simply can not afford a crash, like a live event, be prepared for a crash. Mac: Although more expensive, looks loads better, imo runs a lot smoother, no viruses (99% of the time) no malware, doesnt need defragging as thats always done automatically, and will not let you down when you need it the most, ie: live event etc Linux: Due to cost (Free) I would say this is the best option of all, the downside of Linux is you do need to understand the CLI (command line interface) but everything is open source and free, also no viruses, and doesnt need defragging. I use all of these OS's and some, and I have also used PC and Mac in a professional enviroment where crashing is not an option, needless to say the PC always crashed in this kind of enviroment, since I used a mac in gigs/events Ive never had a crash since, yes the mac is more expensive, but its not about cost, its about performance at any price, so I will leave that part to you, if you can afford to have a machine let you down from time to time go with the PC, if you want something that 99.9% of the time wont crash, and in that very rare occasion does and backs everything up for your restart, go with the latter. Linux is free, and you dont need to install it to test it, you can run it off a USB stick, check Ubuntu for the latest and greatest Linux OS. Good luck
  6. Adult Videos?

I saw a documentary a while ago, they were interviewing one of the BIG websites, I dont know which one, they claimed something like a billion hits a month, and said they run at cost due to the huge amount of money needed to serve masses of data all day long. Its a great idea to think you can just jump into the porn industry, but I fear your being very naive about it all, as some one has already said, without a big budget, how do you think you will ever break into the scene, I mean, firstly, how would anyone even find your website. Personally I think the whole scene is a bit seedy, and any human would be better off doing something more productive for the world, instead of wanting to continue and grow an industry of abuse and sexism. Nice one
  7. Ive used Godaddy for clients, they make life hard for developers, everything you want is off by default and cost extra to get switched on, like a Mysql database for example Anyone who kills for sport, deserves a bullet themselves, so,, stuff his business, the guys got bad karma, his time will come! And, anyway, I thought Elephants were a protected animal? what an asshole!
  8. Hi WDF, I wonder if any of you can advise me on some decent software for organising BIG mail list's. I should tell you, I use a mac, and have previously tried "Max Email Verifier" but I dont think it works very well, in fact I am worried if I take that software seriously, I could be dumping working emails. I have around 20.000 emails that I have harvested over many years, but the list is annoying when 50% come back dead, it would be great to have all the emails verified properly. I am also using "Max Bulk MAiler" of which I am really happy with, but it would be cool if it had more power over the email list and bounces, Im hoping there is a better alternative. TIA Tobes
  9. Just to let you know, i just paid £20 duty on a product that cost me $30 I was not happy at all, I was told HM Customs doesnt just charge duty on the cost of the product, they also rip you off on your postage cost's too, I thought that was a complete rip off, but who you going to argue with? All the best
  10. I find Hostator to be the best Host I have ever used, they will always go the extra mile, and if an occasion they dont, dump the tech your talking to, and try and get another, 90% of the time, i talk to techs who always go that axtra mile, even when it could be a coding error that was my fault, they still help you get everything fixed and back online. Hostgator must be one of the biggest host's yet their service is 110% in my past 5 years experience using them. All the best Tobes
  11. My experience with Heart Internet

interesting thread, not exactly the same as my recent thread, but very similar, hope they sort their customer interests out, sounds like they have a bad attitude.
  12. its funny, because I felt a bit bad about making this thread, i dont want to harm anyones business, i was making a point to Heart, and it worked as I did get my money back. but after just reading antonitas post above, I dont feel so bad, because if you read the report from the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) that is the exact law they seem to be breaking, charging VAT to non business users who can not claim VAT back, so its supposed to be included in the price, it is not supposed to be hidden as small print. It is exactly what you said though which happened to me, i signed up out of curiosity for the £1 account which is the pro account, I thought well for £10 a month thats not so bad, anyway, when the next bill came in for £16.49 I was quite shocked, so when I asked them why it was so expensive they mentioned the VAT (even though that increase is not 20% vat either), of which I explained that was news to me, I then asked to have the account downgraded and they refused, so I was a bit stuck, because the only way for me to get my files back I had been working on was to renew with the £16.49 account. I said in a ticket, if they forced me to do that, and would not downgrade the account to a cheaper package, I would be very upset, and would never use them again, this didnt seem to bother them, so I was fuming, I thought that was terrible way to treat potential ongoing customers, and I was forced to pay the money to get my files back, so I thought job done, I had my files back, but then I wasnt able to remove my credit card details, I thought oh I will have to start a ticket to do this, and I didnt do it straight away, in fact I forgot to do it, and guess what happened, the day I remembered another payment came out. Anyway, after all my upset they did at least refund that, but only after i posted this thread and threatened to do the same with scrapebox, when i sent them this link I got the refund straight away. It seems a lot of stress just to get a refund, and to be honest its a shame because they could have been an ok host, either way £16 for 3 domains is far too expensive even in the UK. So, after all this, i hope they think about this thread and start cleaning up their customer services, and dodgy pricing structures. Tobes
  13. As mikechipshop said, not every one has had a bad experience, but I feel i did, there customer service is fast, but you may as well be talking to a computer as they seem to have no emotion, and will not go the extra mile to keep a client, which seems madness to me, when were the ones who pay, I also host a lot of websites and was testing out Heart, so if they was that great, why did I leave with such a sour taste? bad luck? Anyway, @DanSandercock, there is no way to zip files on a shared server. And at anyone who doesn't think Hostgator honour their agreement, I have 70GB on a shared host with them, over 50 Mysql databases, and a shed load of sites, that cost's me £10 a month, super service, and they always go out of their way to help you. So, when i go to try out a new host, which so many here recommend, I had my hopes up, but felt £16 for 3 websites is a rip off, no zip, limited databases, and poor customer relations is not what i call a great host.
  14. The customer services is quick, without a doubt, but the moment you have an issue with money, your concerns fall of deaf ears. I can show a ticket where I brought up the exact complaint that is on the "Advertising Standards Agency" website, and I can 100% guarantee it was not me who contacted ASA, so if they knew about the issue, why did they refuse to downgrade my package, and force me to renew the Pro package, when they could have simply dropped me to the cheaper package, they knew already that their pricing is misleading if they received a letter from ASA. The pro account is advertised at around £10 on the home page, but when you come to renew its £16. Oh well, I got my £16 back, but I just hope these guys take their complaints a bit more seriously in the future, it will help not only their reputation but also the relationship between people like myself "web designers"
  15. probably why they just refunded me after I sent them a link to this post, Im not trying to ruin a company, but if they dont want to listen to clients, this is what happens, we all know unhappy customers tell people 10 times more about their grievances than when they are happy. The irony of this whole debacle is I also raised a ticket complaining the prices were misleading, and that was when i asked to have my package downgraded and they refused, I was stuffed because I had to pay the next monthly just to get my files back. But when I found this link a few minutes ago, it seems Im not the only person who felt their prices were misleading, in fact the "Advertising Standards Agency" agrees http://www.asa.org.uk/ASA-action/Non-compliant-online-advertisers/Heart-Internet-Ltd.aspx Thanks for the refund, shame I had to burst a blood vessel to get it, had they of downgraded me a month ago, I would probably have been well happy.
