  1. The most descriptive solution to this problem that I have found is here. The problem is that within the wordpress database there's a collection of URLs pointing to the site that the content was developed on. All these URLs need changing to the new domain url. A particular problem is the length encoding that occurs on a few of the urls. The article will explain this. I am currently developing wp content on localhost.com for my company and I've tested moving the wordpress database onto a live internet hosted site by editing URLs within the db and it worked. FYI, the text editor I used to edit the sql db export before importing it again with the desired domain name was emacs. Hope this helps.
  2. Thanks for the info to date guys. Much appreciated. I'm in the process of scheduling a meeting with the HR department to see what it is they think they need in terms of a new system. Frankly I think the requirements gathering previously done went down the "lets make it hard" route.
  3. Hi All, I'm in the process of re-building our corporate web site. Everything is screaming along nicely but there is a fly in the ointment. The current site has an online job application system. It's asp based with some strange microsoft db backend I believe. I'm not interested in taking it over or trying to maintain it in any shape or form. It's not where I'm at technology wise. This leaves me with three options: * Firstly I can re-write it from scratch in php/mysql. * Secondly I can allow our existing web people to maintain it and get them to run it under a job specific corporate domain that I can link to from our main domain which I am going to take off them. * Thirdly I can look for something that's already been written in the technologies I prefer. It's the third option I'd like help with really. Do any of you know of a php/mysql off the shelf solution that will allow us to put up jobs and allow visitors to apply for them online? Cheers John

Hi again, I've coded something up quickly but I can't seem to configure ietester to test this across the net. It works on from my local computer. If someone has IE6 installed I would appreciate them going here and telling me if they see something reasonable: http://makingimages.co.uk/homebrowse/ Should be a tabbed panel with three tabs. First tab should default to on and should display an image with some thumbnails containing some of my interior photos. The other two tabs should be just text. The tab buttons should be up against the diaplay window. help very much appreciated. Cheers!

Hi all, I have a client that wants a tabbed panel to appear on a number of pages. This tabbed panel will have the tabs down the left hand side of the panel. One tabbed page will contain a thumbnail gallery and the other pages within the panel will contain text information. Does anyone have any pointers to a tab system that might accommodate this? Most of the ones I have seen have tabs across the top eg: the tabs on the jquery themeroller. Cheers
  7. T Break is quite right when he says it depends upon usage. The photograph you link to without model and property releases is generally known as an editorial photograph. That means it can be used within, say, an editorial article in a newspaper or magazine for instance but it cannot be used in any commercial venture. If it is being used by your client for commercial reasons not directly related to editorial work then it would not be covered by the license. The image is also problematic as the owners of the property that it was taken in may well have certain rules about photography. If they don't allow it for anything but for personal use then the image should not be made available for sale for any reason. Not for commercial use or for editorial use. I would never offer such a photograph to one of my agencies with a royalty free license. It's simply too risky. Also, regardless of blurring or whether anyone in the photo is identifiable, if someone says that they are in the image they are within their rights to sue and things get very tricky then. My advice is to not use it unless you are sure of the rules surrounding photography and the property and then only if it is for editorial purposes.
  8. Hi Paul, the guys who run CushyCMS.
  9. Hi Guys, Thanks for the pointers. I'm thinking image maps and jQuery.
  10. Hi All, I'm looking to achieve something similar to what appears on this page (map with clickable areas and popups). I have no flash experience at the moment so I'm wondering if there's another way of achieving it or a solution available off the shelf for just the South East?? Hope someone can help. Cheers
  11. Hi tillwilly, Thanks for the info. Just a bit worried about sharing the customers login info with another party with respect to cushcms. I've tried the perch demo (thanks for the pointer) and it seems ok. So difficult to tell until it's used in a live environment. I've always intended to write my own solution for customer updates but just don't have the time right now.
  12. Hi All Does anyone have any experience with Perch as a CMS? I have a prospect who wants a new site and wants to be able to modify certain sections. Perch looks up to the job from what I can see but there's no trial available. Cheers!
  13. Guys, You've all been very helpful and it's very much appreciated. Looks like the whole footer issue needs a good rethink. TTFN
  14. cinnamondm, you're right, it looks flat. That's some great advice so thanks for that. I'll try a gradient to see if that helps. On the subject of "No portfolio!", which in itself is good advice in an interesting package, I am aware of that fact and that needs to be solved as part of the slow launch process as does the population of the blog when the business goes live in stages and the population of the twitter feed. All the sites I have built have been done so in a non-professional capacity, not even standards checked and I don't want to revisit them. My networking strategy has paid off in terms of business relationships so the portfolio will come. Right now it is the design I am predominantly interested in. The company name is a different matter and that in itself continues to be a trial. Everything I think of seems to be taken up by a web design company
  15. Hello all, I'd really welcome some reviews of the following: http://makingimages.co.uk/web/ The site is not complete, the company name will change and the copy needs refining but the gist of the design is there. The colour scheme was inspired by something that I think I saw on theme forest but can't track down now. The idea is to be a little funky, modern, clean. I've been looking at it too long now to make any kind of judgment that I can trust. TTFN
  16. Hi all, thanks for all the replies. It's great to know that the quote was a reasonable one. I do know that this client finds it difficult to part with money unless they think they are getting a bargain so we will have to wait and see. I'm just in the process of writing a project brief with milestones and prices which I'll send to them later today or tomorrow. Great to have found these forums. TTFN
  17. Hi Andy, Thanks for the input, very useful.
  18. Hi all, This is my first time posting on these forums. I'm a professional photographer by trade working in the corporate interiors market and one of my clients, who knows I have a strong IT background (20 years programming on compilers & run-time systems), asked if I would pitch for re-designing and implementing their web site. I'm just back from the meeting with their IT exec who was great but seemed a little concerned about the ballpark pricing I was talking about. They're looking for the following: * design with front page design different from other pages * a few forms * drop down menus * stock photography which I am having to source so I'm acting as a picture researcher here (too expensive to use me for people shots) * Inclusion of much of the property imagery I created for them. * Current count of 44 pages. They will later be wanting some bespoke programming with a database on the backend for parts of the site but we can ignore that for now. The site needs to have a modern corporate feel. I wonder if anyone can help me by suggesting what they might charge? I ballparked at £1500-£2000.
