May 11May 11 Hello all, I run a small web design studio in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. I was born in Gillingham, Kent but my parents moved us here when I was little. I build WordPress websites focusing on modern and clean websites with minimal weight. Currently looking for clients so I was wondering, what are some of your strategies for locating new clients that all of you use? I was hoping to see what other designers and smaller studios do from different places to secure new clients. I have been building websites for about 7 years, starting my first client build with an html coded website. I am interested in SEO best practices, WordPress and building custom websites exploring ACF to create client areas for content updates. Would love to connect and/or colaborate. Wishing all continued success! Cheers, J.P.
May 11May 11 Welcome to the forums. Finding work is hard nowadays, it's not like back in the 1990's/early 2000's when there was so much work I had to turn a lot away! Here's a few things I'd suggest: Make sure your site can be found for searches such as "wordpress niagra-on-the-lake", your speciality and location Try some adverts in local publications, I have, in the past, posted an advert to our local magazine (in the UK!) that gets delivered free to about 10k homes in the surrounding area, that's bought me a few jobs at a very low cost. If you aren't doing so already the WP community is huge so getting involved there a bit can get your name out a bit. Offer some WP things, a plugin maybe or a theme or two. extend your arsenal a bit and offer services for one or more other CMS's, WP runs about 40% of sites but not the other 60% so there is always another market to tap into. May 12May 12 Welcome! The only thing I can think to add to BlueDreamer's suggestion is to have a way of approaching local businesses in real life whose websites need some TLC. You'll build connections and get recommendations if you're persistent and pleasant to deal with 🤘
May 12May 12 I stopped building websites a few years back as it was getting harder to find clients willing to pay the appropriate amount. What is far more lucrative is building plugins. Find your niche and the money can come rolling in. The alternative is to build niche websites. I know a chap in the USA who specializes in websites for baptist churches. Word got around and he now has hundreds of clients. most of his money now comes from website maintenance.
