Tips for Improving Website Performance

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

As a developer at Gramosoft, I've seen many websites struggle with performance issues. Here are a few tips that can help enhance loading speeds:

  1. Optimize Images: Use formats like JPEG for photos and compress them to reduce load times.
  2. Minimize HTTP Requests: Combine CSS and JavaScript files to decrease the number of requests.
  3. Enable Browser Caching: This stores resources for faster loading on return visits.

Implementing these practices can lead to a noticeable improvement in user experience. What other strategies do you find effective?

My top tip: send less data.

Get rid of external scripts and styles.

Get rid of plugins.

Don't use page bulders

Stop adding pointless images and animations.

Pay for decent hosting

Mine;

1. Don't load JS into a document unless you need it.

2. Watch page weight like a hawk. Have a page weight budget and stick to it.

3. Keep an eye on the number of DOM elements in a page or template, too many and you'll slow page rendering

From my experience, real-world traffic tests expose issues synthetic audits miss. While optimizing a Sui Gas bill check portal that handles thousands of visitors during peak billing times, we found database query optimization and CDN caching made the biggest difference.

Combining server-side caching with lazy-loaded assets helped reduce page load by nearly 50%. Has anyone here tried edge caching for dynamic user sessions?

Great tips — totally agree on image optimization and caching!

A few more strategies that work well for boosting performance:

  • Use a CDN (Content Delivery Network): Delivers assets faster by using servers closer to users.

  • Lazy Loading: Delays loading of offscreen images until they’re needed.

  • Minify CSS, JS, and HTML: Removes unnecessary code for faster rendering.

  • Database Optimization: Regularly clean and index your database to reduce query time.

Small tweaks like these can make a big difference in Core Web Vitals and overall UX.

A CDN can slow things down. Do some split testing to check performance figures.

Local hosting is a far better solution - most sites only target one country so no need for a CDN.
