July 5, 20206 yr Hello and greetings from a very blustery Lincolnshire! A question please ... I am working on a basic website which requires video streaming. To keep his own site bandwidth to a minimum, the customer wants to use an external streaming service, but not Vimeo due to their costs. Ideally, the video will be password protected. But who offers reliable low-cost (or free) video streaming apart from YouTube? Who are the reliable alternatives these days? Or maybe YouTube is the place to be. I have some doubts as I have tried to hide videos there before and give URLs to selected people, but this has never worked. Videos have either been public or blocked from everybody. Have I been doing something wrong? Thanks. John.
July 5, 20206 yr It's pretty blustery in Northamptonshire as well! Really you're not going to get much for "free" apart from the hosting, there's always a price to pay - most video hosting companies make money from "free" accounts via data surveillance. There are plenty of listicles about video hosting services such as https://biteable.com/blog/the-7-best-video-hosting-sites/ If it was me I'd go for Vimeo as they seem to the most privacy orientated, and their basic plan is only £72 a year, that's actually quite cheap in the greater scheme of things. July 5, 20206 yr Vimeo at £72/year is pretty low cost. £1.50/week shouldn’t break the bank. Or it this some sort of charity site?
