If you have time I would love some critics about my portfolio.

I want to aware you that I have the server at home so the reason why the websites may be so slow is because of that.

I'll change the server pretty soon, so that I can have faster websites.

That is one of the most annoying preloaders I have ever sat through then I had to listen to an iritating piece of music which made me close the window.

 

First things first, get rid of the bouncing logo on the preloader and get rid of the music which will make the preload shorter, then I may actually carry on looking at the site.

I think you were alittle harsh there jamest...i must admit the preloader is a little anoying, but like he said, he's hosting it at home so it will be faster...and the music gets alittle anoying lol

 

Anyway, onto the site:

 

I like the site, but one thing, the red, blue and green things you've got at the bottom of the columns, the red one looks slightly larger than the others. I like the phonix though.

 

Also on the contact page, mabey you could put a form on it.

 

but yeah, really nice site you've got there, just mabey tweak around with the preloader and the music...

Hey, I think the site is ok, though, I think that if you raised your graphics to the lvl of that of the shiny ball. It would look a hell of a lot better.. because it looks really nice, and the rest of the site looks fairly average.

I also think your graphics could use some work.

 

Make your flash website eye candy, if you know what I mean.

tbh, I agree with jamest. It's not so much the load time, it's the idea and execution. The bouncing ball doesn't serve any purpose in terms of giving information. The execution looks a bit amateurish... the reflection is all wrong (it's just a moving gradated bar). If it were done nicely, it could be worth keeping because it would add a bit of visual interest.

 

The main page is feeling a bit hobbyist too. There's a lot of elements that don't have a purpose (eg, the triangular bits at the sides, the white glows at the top).. Sometimes it's good to add things that don't physically do anything, but they should still serve a purpose (eg, adding elements that help to balance the site visually), but these come across as visual clutter.

 

You really need to have some way of turning the music off.

 

Again, execution is a problem. Those triangle things on the left and right.. look at the innermost points, you can see the outlines aren't continuous, they cross over.

 

I won't go in to all the problems, but they seem to boil down to four things:

 

1) lack of attention to detail (you've typed 'webiste' on the front page, btw)

2) sloppy execution

3) designing the site for yourself and not thinking about the visitor's experience

4) no real concept behind all the effects

I am glad to have critics, I hope to get better and make you proud. If I'll get better it will be because of you being sincere with me.

There is not being harsh for me, I am only glad you all had time to look at what I've done. It's only a year I make website in Flash and I never thought I was a guru.

I'll work on it and post it after following your advices.

I like your site. I think it's funky! I'm not a fan of having music play automatically, but you've picked a funky tune that seems to go with the design of your site. By that, I mean that you have coloured lights below the text columns and white spotlights everywhere, and I think the music goes with it nicely.

 

As far as all-Flash websites go, yours is quite easy to use, I had no problems. Your site is one of the first all-flash sites which I quite like. It is not everyone's cup of tea, but there will be some who would be overjoyed to have you create a website for them in that style.

 

In a lot of ways, it's good to be different - your site stands out - and I think the site looks quite professional, in a non-traditional kind of way!

 

Edit: Just revisited your site and caught myself rocking my head from side to side at the music. Lol

Now I'm a man of many words and, to be honest, I've struggled with how to write this post to be constructive and not just overly critical. No need for me to mention the painful preloader, but for me the whole site is very off key. The look and feel is very much a retro games site - I keep thinking I'm on the intro screen of an Amiga or Atari ST game - it's the graphics, the music, the font - just about everything - it's very '8-bit'. It all needs lightening-up, more whitespace, more freedom - it needs to be smoother, more spacious, sleeker...

As for the copy? Sorry, but it's truly terrible and almost incoherent in places! There's not much, but what there is damages your credibility just as much as the outdated design.

 

I really am sorry to sound all negative, but I don't think that site does you any favours. Give everything more space - use more subtle yet powerful graphics and effects and think about what a visitor wants to see and read.

That wasnt worth the 40 second wait - and I'm sorry but what the hell is the flash preloader actually preloading? The only part of the page that isn't static is the reflection on the emblem...... there's no need to use flash whatsoever.
