doing work for a client's competitor

Featured Replies

Hi all -

I manage the adwords campaign of a good long-term client and have done for years, but have recently had an enquiry from a direct competitor to manage their adwords campaign too. I'm not sure what to do, as I feel like I'm in a moral dilemma but not sure if I should feel that way. Would I be betraying my original client, or is this the nature of the beast?

Thanks

Your gut instinct says you have integrity, sadly often lacking in our industry. Totally agree with Robert, this is a direct conflict of interest, and if one performs better than the rival then there will no doubt be questions of loyalty as they would think you favor their rival over their business. The new direct competitor won't be happy you won't do the work but will totally respect your integrity.

Hi Dibly,

You can manage both the clients at time even if they are competitors. You are doing adwords and this will not affect their competition as it depends on the budget they fix for keywords.

My suggestion is to take up the project.

Thanks and Regards

Still a conflict of interests regardless. There are plenty of potential clients around. The last thing you want is to end up in a sticky legal situation where your integrity is at stake.

I just want to tell you, take the project up and it's about AdWords and depend upon the budget so you have nothing to with their budget and competitor want to be on top and have more budget than definitely, he should be on top, it doesn't matter who manage the campaigns.
