April 11, 20179 yr Hi, I have just been beginning my web design/development antics and currently trying to learn more about SEO. First the question I'm about to ask I am not sure if it relates to SEO but here goes... When designing a website/SEO what determines what page displays on google below the main index? For example these pages here I understand this may be a silly question - but hope someone can help me Thanks Aidan
April 11, 20179 yr These are Googles attempts at matching up the user to your content. I assume the search terms was your business name, I got a slightly different set incognito. These deeper links are not controllable as far as I'm aware. Probably a hybrid of internal / external authority with a bit of 'most popular pages' stirred in to effect
April 11, 20179 yr These pages are automatically chosen by Google according to website content. May be these pages are best according to Google for visitors.
April 12, 20179 yr The name of that method of display that google uses is 'Sitelinks'. It's an interesting question how google chooses to display sitelinks or not and exactly what is included. Google doesn't disclose its methods so you will never know exactly how it works and you will never be able to totally control it. But there are plenty of pointers to good practice. A search of support.google.com will give some hints. Google may be circumspect in what they say but they are often very concise in what little they disclose. Link structure, alt text, and as BrowserBugs pointed out, different for different users, maybe by location, language, history,- idk. As with all SEO the internet is awash with self-appointed experts and advice of very variable quality which you will have to make a judgement on. Read google first. Like this:https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/47334?hl=en I think you can exclude pages from sitelinks. I suspect a meta description for each page might be useful. I see none of our resident SEO enthusiasts except ashleyben (gold star for effort mate!) has been able to contribute anything at all. That's all from me.

April 12, 20179 yr Yes it depends on the "on page and off page" activity which decide on part of google which page should be displayed on the next results.

April 28, 20179 yr Remember google's main objective is to serve its audience with the right content. Therefore the algorithm tries to give more authority to the most relevant page on websites and blogs and how many times that content has been viewed.
May 11, 20179 yr Most of these search terms are automatically arranged by Google based on its visitor traffic.
